Put a finger down if you’ve spent quite some time this year crushing on fictional Netflix characters who are too good to exist IRL or whose actors will never know you exist IRL. We never asked for a life of hurting over hopeless crushes but alas, here we are. But before we say goodbye to this chaotic year, let’s look back at the men who made us swoon. Here are our gr8est Netflix heartthrobs of 2020. Did yours make it to the list?
People who watched Enola Holmes went in expecting to fawn over Millie Bobby Brown and crush on his fictional older brothers played by Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin. What they did not expect was to crush on a completely new character, Viscount Tewkesbury played by a (fairly) new boy in town — Louis Partridge. The young charmer is only 17 years old and with his dashing good looks, we’re willing to bet he’s going to get cast for a couple more Netflix shows. But did you know he also plays instruments and Enola Holmes wasn’t his first acting stint?
Do not tell me you did not fall for Austin Abrams’ portrayal of the teenaged Dash with his dark golden-brown swept-to-the-side wavy hair and that low, nasal narrator voice? He successfully portrayed his snarky, bookish rich-kid-with-divorced-parents look in Dash & Lily. And every so often you’ll be reminded of the lovely Timothee Chalamet because they somehow resemble each other. Yep, we love Austin Abrams. In case you can’t have enough of him in Dash & Lily, you’ll be glad to know he also recently starred in a romantic drama entitled Chemical Hearts alongside Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart.
Although we have qualms about the morals of his Emily in Paris character as Gabriel, we can’t help but fall for Lucas Bravo’s charms. In the hit Netflix series, he plays the hot, next-door-neighbor, French chef who is the object of Emily’s (Lily Collins) infatuation. And ours too, apparently. If the accent doesn’t make you swoon, the fact that he almost owns a (fictional) restaurant and is one of the “best chefs in Paris” will. We can’t wait for Season 2!
We cooed and aww-ed when wittle Thomas Brodie-Sangster appeared as a kid in the classic Love Actually and then we raised an eyebrow when he showed up next in Maze Runner all grown up. But his appearance in The Queen’s Gambit looks like the final form of a decades-long transformation. Oh yes, he is still pasty-faced and lanky, but he is wearing trench coats and he has a decent amount of facial hair and he destroys people in chess. Swoon. Definitely a must on our list of Netflix heartthrobs.
We saw Jordan Fisher star earlier this year in the teen rom-com To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and later in the dance comedy film Work It. Honestly, if you still aren’t crushing on him by now, what are you doing? The man can dance, sing, and act — ergo he is the total 21st-century ideal guy package. And yes, I am #TeamJohnAmbrose (Peter Kavinsky might be hot but that’s all he’s got. Fight me.) and you can’t do anything about it. If you’re hoping that Jordan is still single, you’re a few days late since he actually just tied the knot with his girlfriend Ellie Woods last Nov. 21, 2020.
Lucifans here he is — Tom Ellis, the devil himself. He doesn’t have to look that good while stopping celestial and demonic beings from threatening Earth but we’re not complaining. And although the show itself has garnered some mixed reviews from critics, Ellis’ performance was praised consistently. We simply cannot wait for Lucifer Season 6 to see Ellis in all his suited up, LAPD consultant glory.
It’s so difficult to choose just one person from Money Heist to include on this list but our ultimate crushie would be The Professor. Alvaro Morte’s role is the brains of the otherwise chaotic rag-tag group of Criminals With a Heart™. He has to keep a level head and keep his emotions in check during the high-stress environment, even when he thought the love of his life was shot dead. He was also extremely intelligent enough to orchestrate two separate high-stakes heists and for that alone, he deserves to be number one in our hearts.
One can never understand how Aidan Gallagher can transform from cute to handsome in a span of 0.5 seconds but one should never complain. It’s difficult to believe he’s only 17 years old! Aidan plays the always stressed-out time-jumping Number 5 in the hit Netflix series Umbrella Academy. Apart from acting, this man-child is also a budding musician and content creator. You can watch more of him on his YouTube channel here.
