Twitter Circle is ~*Finally*~ Here: Everything You Need to Know About Twitter’s Newest Feature

Aug 31, 2022   •   Edgardo Toledo

With over 300 million monthly users globally, Twitter has changed the communication landscape by allowing people — from regular users, celebrities, and politicians to health professionals — to have conversations in one space. That’s where we get some of the newest trends or piping-hot gossip on the internet, too. The social media app just launched Twitter Circle, but what is it exactly? Take a look.

What’s Twitter Circle?

Basically, Twitter Circle is like having a timeline only selected people can see. After all, some people have tweets they don’t want to share publicly.

According to Twitter’s general manager of Consumer and Revenue Product Jay Sullivan, Twitter Circle aims to make the social media app more “approachable” and “less intimidating”, especially for new users. He adds it can help with anxiety related to tweeting by letting people have private conversations with those they trust.

How does it work?

Via Twitter

Twitter Circle lets you add up to 150 people to share select tweets with. Tweets sent to your circle will appear with a green badge underneath them. They also can’t retweet your Twitter Circle posts on Twitter or their own Twitter Circle.

You don’t have to worry too much about who you add or remove to your Circle because people won’t get notified if you decide to remove some users in your Circle.

If you’re curious what the whole Twitter Circle craze is about, here’s how to make one:

  1. Click the New tweet button, then tap All Followers, located next to the right of your account icon.
  2. A Choose Audience popup window will appear, with options All Followers and Twitter Circle. Tap Edit right next to Twitter Circle.
  3. A new window appears, showing your Twitter Circle members and a Recommended section. Click Recommended, and from there, you can search for the people you want to add to your Circle.

And voila! You now have a Twitter Circle.

Should you use it?

who is brave enough to add us to their Twitter Circle?

The answer is always up to you. Twitter Circle is a new fun way to engage with users on the app, but you should also be responsible for everything you share because it’s still not absolutely private. Your Twitter Circle members can still download and screenshot your Twitter Circle tweets.  The internet can be a cruel, unforgiving place, so it won’t hurt to be extra careful.
