Hanggang saan ka dadalhin ng oppa mo? Most fans would say their favorite K-pop idols and their music helped them get through hard times. But for a 21-year-old girl in Brazil, she was able to escape a robbery with the help of her bias: Jin of global supergroup BTS.
Earlier this month, 21-year-old Natali Vitoria Ramos Reis was waiting at a bus stop in In Paraná, Brazil at night, trying to commute home. The thief then approached her, taking the cellphone out of her hands. But when the thief turned the phone over, he saw Natali’s wallpaper, which was a photo of BTS’ Jin in his military uniform. After seeing the photo, the thief returned the phone and ran away.
“He must have thought, ‘Hey, her boyfriend is in the military. I’m not going to steal,’” Natali told RIC Mais.

Currently, BTS’ Jin (real name: Kim Seokjin) is rendering his military service in South Korea, where all men are required to enlist in the army. Recently, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal two months earlier than scheduled and he also joined the Special Class Warriors (i.e. an honorary title given to soldiers among the regular troops who possess strong physical endurance, mental fortitude, based on their excellent combat competency, outstanding marksmanship, physical fitness, and mental resilience).
[MBN news] 230712. BTS Jin. Even military life is world class. If you don’t become special warrior, you will be ashamed of BTS.

The incident has since gone viral on social media, especially among ARMYs (a.k.a. fans of BTS), with Jin being praised as “a superman.”
Some said they will do the same as Natali and set Jin’s military uniform photo as their wallpaper. Others also suggested putting his photo in their wallets to discourage thieves.
I better change my lockscreen.

And the idea is not so ludicrous as it sounds. In 2020, an ARMY shared how she had her wallet stolen, but the thief returned it when they saw an edited photo of BTS’ RM (real name: Kim Namjoon) in a police uniform. The thief even thought the Korean star was her husband. “My wallet was stolen, but it came back because of my beloved husband,” the fan tweeted.
OMG AN ARMY GOT HER WALLET STOLEN BUT THE PERSON WHO STOLE IT RETURNED IT TO HER BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE NAMJOON PHOTO WAS HER POLICE OFFICER HUSBAND??? IM SCREAMING SNDJFKFKNSKS https://t.co/XBIVBVGUle
