Soundtrack #2: Why You Should Watch This K-Drama on Disney+

Last year, Soundtrack #1 captivated K-drama lovers all over the world for its quiet yet realistic telling of the friends-to-lovers trope. This time, Soundtrack #2 follows up with similar vibes that tell a familiar yet convincing story of love. Here’s why you should watch this gem of a K-drama:

Meet Ji Suho

At the present time, Ji Suho (played by Noh Sang-hyun) is the rich and successful CEO of a content creation company Playing. Known for its vast content catalog, Playing has content creators from videos on mukbang to origami making to even slime-making, though Suho is currently on the hunt for a music content creator.

But before all that, he was just a simple, quite innocent college student who could be childish and petty but had big dreams and a big heart full of love, especially for the love of his life. So when they broke up, all his energy went into making his dreams come true. Now living very differently from his college days, he’s cold and hard to approach.

Meet Do Hyeonseo

During their college days, Do Hyeonseo (played by Keum Sae-rok) is a budding genius pianist on her way to fulfilling her dreams. But many years later, we find her as someone who has given up on her dreams and is now struggling to make ends meet. She does odd jobs as a delivery rider, a waitress, and a piano teacher.

They’re ex-lovers turned strangers

One of Hyeonseo’s unlikely students is her ex-boyfriend Suho. So now we’ve got these ex-lovers-turned-strangers — or more like, enemies. Now that they’ve reunited as teacher-and-student, they bicker and argue to no end. But of course, this is a love story. So we’re seeing the potential of ex-lovers to strangers/enemies to lovers again! Honestly? We love to see it. We’re seated and eagerly waiting.

An unexpected love triangle

Anything that can happen will happen, so of course, we also get a love rival! This love rival is an up-and-coming singer, who Hyeonseo meets in one of her odd jobs and who Suho plans to sign on as a music content creator. Talk about complicated relationships.

Now meet K

The up-and-coming singer K is played by Sohn Jeong-hyuck, an actor who actually made his TV debut in this series! But don’t judge him too early. He plays the sweet and charming K so well that we might just get Second Lead Syndrome. Plus, he is a talented musician IRL — he even wrote the main theme song for the series!

Romance-focused

As you can probably tell from this article, this K-drama is all about the love and romance. You won’t see convoluted plotlines here — there are no recovering amnesiacs or sudden inheritances. It’s just the story of two people formerly in love, who might find love with one another again (with a love rival in the mix).

A well-plotted story

Most of the story is told from the point of view of Hyeonseo. But we get glimpses of Suho’s perspective in the bonus tracks, and it’s a great way of showing the different perspectives of the two leads. Despite one being unreliable narrator, the snippets we get of Suho’s point of view allows us to understand where he is emotionally — and that there’s a chance for love again!

A gem of a story wrapped up in 6 episodes

This story is familiar: ex-lovers that reunite and possibly rekindle their love is a story we’ve seen time and again. But while it does not bring something new to the world of K-drama, Soundtrack No. 2 manages to be a convincing love story through its intimate, realistic, and sensitive lenses that would leave you content. And maybe yearning for your own love story.
