Fans of the Tony Award-winning musical Hadestown have something major to look forward to: the acclaimed stage production is getting a theatrical proshot release this summer. Is Hadestown going to hit cinemas in the Philippines soon? Here’s what we know so far!
Titled Hadestown: The Musical, the filmed version is set to open in cinemas on July 24, 2026 in North America, with other regions—including the Philippines—still unconfirmed.
The film captures the West End staging of Hadestown while bringing together members of its original Broadway principal cast. Leading the ensemble is Filipina theater star Eva Noblezada, who brings to life Eurydice, joined by Reeve Carney, André De Shields, Amber Gray, and Patrick Page.
Originally created by Anaïs Mitchell and directed for the stage by Rachel Chavkin, the production was filmed in London under the direction of Brett Sullivan, aiming to translate its mythic, stage-bound storytelling into a cinematic experience.
Hadestown reimagines the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, following a young musician who journeys into the underworld in an attempt to save the woman he loves. Set to a blend of folk and jazz-inspired music, the story explores love, fate, and the cost of hope.
First developed as a concept album in 2010 before its official Broadway debut in 2019, the musical went on to win eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
At present, there is no confirmation yet on a Philippine release. But with its global fanbase—and a Filipina actor in a lead role—local theater fans will definitely want to keep this one on their radar.
