8 Reasons Why ‘Fast Food Fiction Delivery Volume 2’ isn’t Really Full of Empty Calories

fastfood-fiction_01

As a species, human beings put a lot of junk into their systems. We haven’t been the most discerning creatures as of late, from the food we take in to the culture we consume. We fall for clickbait on a regular basis, and more often than not we hit the ‘Share’ and ‘Reblog’ buttons before educating ourselves on certain topics. While embracing gut instinct is a wonderful thing (junk food is a wonderful, glorious invention), our impulse for immediacy should give us pause—at least a moment’s hesitation to ask ourselves certain questions like “Will this make other people better?” or “Is this a conversation that needs to be had?”

Amidst the hubbub and discourse that has recently opened up regarding Fast Food Fiction Delivery Volume 2—a discourse that involves not just legalities but morals and the ideals of reappropriation, at its core sits a collection of microfiction brilliant enough to spark the discussion to begin with.

Regardless of which camp you fall under in the current conversation, we suggest you curl up with some Fast Food Fiction and indulge. Here are our favorites:

8. This is the Subheader Text
8. Float by Dean Francis Alfar
“10. I hope that your trajectory finds me, I know you know who I am. You’ve called me by name.”

7. Persian Rose by Jose Y. Dalisay, Jr.
“Each old pen hobbled in with a story, and there were hundreds of them now in his collection, from a continent and sometimes a century away. By the time he had run the pen through the ultrasonic cleaner, put in a new rubber sac, and polished the cap and barrel, the pen looked new and the stories were gone down the drain.”

6. Gravity by Andrew Drilon
“I help prop him up on pillows and he asks, for the ninth time, “Did you read it?”
I did, Papa. I read it and it’s a solid, hefty, story. An epic ninety-four years tall.”

5. Bedtime Story by Israfel Fagela
“They say that if you look up at the night sky while holding a star chart, you will find a stray star. That’s Pepito watching over his family.”

3. Suspended by Tessa de Guzman Prieto
“Like it’s nothing. Anyone can do it. They did it. No big deal. She goes around, behind him, nudges, gently, forcefully, still he stays collapsed, twigs tucked in fur, full of fear, frozen.”
