8 Metro Manila Museums You Should Check Out

[dropcap letter=”A”]s children, most of our exposure to museums was limited to school field trips, or stop overs on road trips with our families. Now, as discerning adults who are (ideally) earning our own incomes, museums have become a great way to educate ourselves on art and culture. And also, as an alternative place to spend our weekends.

If you haven’t been to these 8 museums in Metro Manila, here’s what you’ve been missing out on.

 

8. Yuchengco Museum

What You’ll Find: At the moment, you’ll find exhibits featuring calligraphy and paintings from Chinese artists, as well as Philippine indigenous textiles.

Entrance: Adults: P100, Students: P50, Children and Senior Citizens: P25

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10AM to 6PM

Location: RCBC Plaza, corner Ayala and Senator Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati City

 

7. Mind Museum

What you’ll find: There are over 250 interactive exhibits that fall under Atom, Earth, Live, Universe and Technology. There are also two outdoor areas that continue the fun and learning.

Entrance: The current summer rate is P475 for an all-day pass, and P190 for public school students (until college level) and teachers

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, the museum opens at 9AM

Location: JY Campos Park, 3rd Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig

 

6. Ayala Museum

What you’ll find: Apart from their permanent exhibits such as the Philippine history dioramas, maritime vessels, and china from Southeast Asia, Ayala Museum has also reopened an exhibit on Philippine indigenous textiles, and has recently launched OpenSpace, an outdoor exhibition area in the museum plaza.

Entrance: Full admission is P125

Hours: The Ground-Fourth Floor Galleries are open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 9AM to 6PM; The Filipinas Heritage Library is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 9AM to 6PM; and ArtistSpace is open from Mondays to Sundays, from 10AM to 7PM

Location: Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Greenbelt Park, Makati City

 

5. Presidential Museum and Library

What you’ll find: Check out the Main Hall, Kalayaan Hall, and Old Waiting Room, featuring collections of various election materials from past presidents, as well as various memorabilia.

Entrance: You may contact them here for reservations.

Hours: Themuseum is open 5 days a week. Tours are hourly starting from 9AM-3PM.

Location: 2/F Kalayaan Hall, Malacañang, J.P. Laurel St., San Miguel, Manila

 

4. Philippine Science Centrum

What you’ll find: As the first hands-on science center museum in the Philippines, PSC features numerous exhibits ranging from a symmetroscope, a human gyro ride, to various dioramas depicting greenhouse effects, trash, recycling, electricity and gravity, among others.

Entrance: Adults: P130, maximum of 1.5 hours, with additional Php 60.00 every hour thereafter

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Location: E-Com Building, Riverbanks Center, Marikina City

 

3. The Museum at DLSU

What you’ll find: The Museum is currently running Visual Allegory, an exhibit that features various works from the Wili and Doreen Fernandez and the University’s art collection.

Entrance: P25.00 for non-DLSU Filipino student; P50.00 for foreigners

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8AM – 6PM

Location:  2nd level of the Don Enrique T. Yuchengco Hall in De La Salle University-Manila, 2401 Taft Avenue, Manila

 

2. Museum of Contemporary Art and Design

What you’ll find: MCAD is currently hosting Vitruvian Figure, the first Asian solo exhibition of artist Paul Pfeiffer.

Entrance: Contact MCAD here.

Hours: Tuesdays-Fridays, 10AM- 6PM; Saturdays, 10AM – 2PM

Location: G/F Benilde School of Design and Arts Campus, 950 P. Ocampo Street, Manila

 

1. UST’s Museum of Arts and Sciences

What you’ll find: The UST Museum is home to a wide array of collections, from Natural History specimens and fossils, oriental art, as well as coins, medals and other memorabilia. They also house a hall of Philippine religious images, including  the Papal thrones used by Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II during their visits to the school.

Entrance: Adults: P50.00, Students: P30.00

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30AM to 4:30PM

Location: Main Gallery, Mezzanine Level, Main Building, University of Santo Tomas, España Boulevard, Manila
