Behind the dazzling lights, fame, and glamour of show business, being a celebrity comes with a fair share of pros and cons that make it a cutthroat industry. Case in point: Ariana Grande recently shared a video to break her silence about an issue that’s been haunting her for years — her body weight. Here’s what happened:
Ever since she rose to fame, Ariana Grande has been subject to intense scrutiny from both fans and critics alike. Her body weight in particular has become a hot topic, with many speculating about her diet and workout routine. Recently, Ariana shared a video on social media to break her silence on this issue that’s been haunting her for years.
“I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body — and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to.”
She encouraged everyone to be gentler when commenting on people’s bodies and emphasized that there are other ways to compliment a person or ignore something you don’t like.
“But I just also wanted to say, there are many kinds of beautiful. There are many ways to look healthy and beautiful. Healthy can look different.”
The 29-year-old singer said that the body people compare to her now is the “unhealthiest version” of her body as a result of taking antidepressants and a poor diet. Elsewhere in the clip, she reminds we’re all beautiful, regardless of our weight, how we do our makeup, or whatever we’re going through.
“I just think you’re beautiful, and I’m sending you a lot of love.”
Being one of the most prominent artists of today’s generation, it’s no surprise that Ariana’s name trended as soon as her TikTok video was posted. Netizens voiced their support for the singer and criticized those who call her “too skinny,” “anorexic,” or “unhealthy.”

One user said the root cause of this situation is the sense of entitlement many seem to have. “Simply mind your business at the end of the day. Adopt a decorum of compassion! Everything doesn’t need to be said!” they wrote.
The problem is TOO MANY PPL FEEL ENTITLED to others! Youre not entitled to anyones time, feelings, thoughts, absolutely nothing! Be it good or bad like she stated. Someone also said this conversation was comparable to when the late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman became subjected to distasteful comments after losing weight because of his illness. Sadly, the culture of body shaming remains prevalent, regardless of gender, age, and social status.
I see no one’s learned from the Chadwick situation

But despite everything that’s been going on, Ariana’s words resonated with countless individuals who also experience struggles with their bodies.
Never been a big fan of her music but my heart hurts for her and that last part really touched my heart as a person who struggles with body dysmorphia on the daily ❤️

It’s easy to make assumptions when you don’t bother yourself to know the whole story. “Healty” looks different for everyone, so we should stop giving unsolicited comments about someone’s body for whatever reason. No matter what your intentions are with your body weight-related statements, it’s best to keep them out of conversations.
