8 Players We’ll Miss in UAAP Volleyball Season 79

4. Myla Pablo (NU Lady Bulldogs)

Myla Pablo played a major role in many of NU’s successful seasons. Despite playing a supporting role behind the Santiago siblings, Pablo herself was a very potent option in the Lady Bulldogs attack. She earned the Best Attacker award in Season 75 and helped her team get the second seed in the Final Four with a 12-2 record the following year. While she wasn’t able to lead NU to the playoffs this season, her skills and leadership on the court will be sorely missed by her team.

3. Cyd Demecillo (DLSU Lady Spikers)

The third Lady Spiker in the list, Cyd Demecillo is a proven winner of the sport in the collegiate level. Not only did she win championships playing indoor volleyball, she also made her mark in the UAAP’s Beach Volleyball Tournament. The Cebuana-bred player, along with teammates with Kim Fajardo and Ernestine Tiamzon, bagged the gold medal in this year’s edition of the beach volleyball competition. This gives them the rare distinction of winning two gold medals in two different sports during the same year.

2. Amy Ahomiro (ADMU Lady Eagles)

Amy Ahomiro had a quiet start to her UAAP career after dealing with several nagging injuries to her knee. Fortunately for the Kiwi-national, she was able to recover just in time to help in Ateneo’s title bids in 2013 and 2014. Playing as either middle blocker or opposite, Ahomiro added more fire power to the dangerous Lady Eagle offense. The highlight of her career came in the Season 77 finals when she was named the Finals MVP after their sweep of La Salle in the finale.

1. Carmela Tunay (UST Growling Tigresses)

Among all the players in this list, Carmela Tunay is the only one who hasn’t any won any major awards in her entire college career. Despite this, her importance to UST’s performance cannot be discounted. She led the Lady Tigresses in scoring in her first few years as the focal point of the offense. While she took on a diminished role to give way to juggernauts such as Cherry Rondina and EJ Laure, Tunay will be remembered as one of the faces of the post-dynasty UST teams.
