Bruno Mars’ Electrifies Filipino Fans Through a Thrilling Concert Weekend

Jun 26, 2023   •   Lauren Sason

Just last weekend, Hooligans had the ultimate concert experience from the one and only Bruno Mars. His energy had the entire crowd on their feet the entire show, dancing and screaming along to every single one of his songs — almost as if they didn’t have to contend with heavy rains and seemingly endless traffic jams to and from the Philippine Arena.

On the nights of July 24 and 25, Mars showed every single side of himself to rock the entire Philippine Arena – from bopping to his hit singles “24K Magic” and “Treasure”, to breaking it down to piano-only for “Grenade” and “Talking to the Moon”, and finally bringing back the entire band for songs like “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Just The Way You Are”.

Mars electrified the crowd as he brought out his guitar to play one of his best songs, “Marry You”. Everyone had their hands up in the air as they swayed along to one of the most nakakakilig songs in his setlist.

To further that kilig factor, he brought out a prop phone during “Calling All My Lovelies” to act out a simple monologue saying “miss na kita, mahal”…and then he eventually belted it out in song, too.

The singer-songwriter broke it down and took a trip down memory lane through a piano-only medley. While singing his hit “Leave The Door Open”, he opened up about his fantasy of having all the Filipino ladies answer “I’m coming for you, Bruno!” after he would sing the line “Tell me that you’re coming.”

And of course, everyone in the arena responded with that exact line. Mars then had the shyest smile on his face, a slight blush creeping up his cheeks as he said “Stop, ladies, I’m shy. Nahihiya ako!” while laughing.

Mars brought the energy back up with his band, getting everyone back on their feet and dancing along to “Locked Out Of Heaven”. It was in these moments that the crowd suddenly saw confetti falling to the ground. We knew the night was slowly coming to a close, but it didn’t stop any of his Hooligans from having fun.

For his final song, he played the song that made him a household name: “Just The Way You Are”. Everyone had belted out the lyrics that, for some reason, would take away every single insecurity we had, even if it was just for a few minutes. Mars just has that sense of magic to him: the type that would make you kilig while you danced the night away. And then it was time to bid everyone goodnight.

But that wasn’t the end for his Hooligans. Mars jumped back onstage to perform “Uptown Funk” and had everyone jumping out of their seats (or back into the arena, as some were preparing to leave) as well.

Bruno Mars didn’t just put on a show for his fans – he gave us a whole experience. This guy is a once-in-a-lifetime performer, giving his all to put on a show and keep the audience engaged. He had the whole arena wrapped around his finger, singing, dancing, and having the time of our lives. The concert was simply breathtaking and downright magical, making every single minute in the rain and traffic worth it.
