ARMY, rejoice! We can finally watch BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star, now streaming on Disney+! BTS wasn’t always the global superstars they are now, but this documentary gives a raw and honest look into the ten-year journey of how BTS transformed from unknown underdogs into the world’s biggest group today.
The members have always been open with their experiences behind the scenes — from the plethora of Bangtan Bombs to the yearly Memories DVD compilation. But even then, there are still some things fans haven’t been able to see. Through this documentary, BTS’ fans a.k.a. ARMY will be able to see never-before-seen archival footage and exclusive new interviews with RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook that perfectly encapsulate the band’s past, present, and future. Here are some of the things we loved to see in BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star.
As performers, BTS always takes videos of themselves when practicing so that they can monitor how they look from the audience’s perspective. While they have released dance practice videos over the years, we’re pretty sure there’s still a lot more footage in the vault. Based on the teasers released, we’re definitely getting more practice videos. Here’s to hoping we even get pre-debut content!
Most ARMYs are familiar with the Bangtan Bomb of Jung Kook’s graduation ceremony with all the members of BTS present. This time, it seems we’re also getting glimpses of the other members’ — namely RM’s! Hopefully, we also get a peek at the others’ graduation ceremonies.
Before BTS sold out huge stadiums and flew all over the world, the members were simply performing small shows and meeting a handful of fans while catching quick naps and being driven in a tiny car around South Korea. It seems like we’ll see more footage from those days thanks to BTS: Monuments: Beyond The Star. We think we might cry.
In the early days, all 7 members of BTS shared one tiny room measuring 17 tsubo or pyeong (which is merely around 56 square meters!). It’s all too familiar and nostalgic for ARMY — it’s where BTS celebrated their 1st debut anniversary. There aren’t a lot of videos from that era, but it seems they’ll be releasing never-before-seen footage based on a trailer clip of RM and V playing a game at their old dorm.
BTS members love sharing group photos and selfies with ARMY, as proven by the content on their Twitter and Instagram accounts. They usually just tell us the story behind the selfies, if at all, but it seems this time, we might get actual footage from behind the scenes of some photos! In one scene from the trailer, we see Jimin talking to the camera about a viral selfie he posted in 2013.

ICYDK, in 2013, BTS held a small fan meeting for a joint celebration of Christmas and the birthdays of Jin and V. Fans couldn’t bring cameras to the event, but BigHit did film the event, but the footage remains elusive. We didn’t really see this in the trailers released so far. But many ARMYs (including myself!) are hoping HYBE and BigHit finally show us actual footage from this event. Pretty please with a cherry on top!

Debut ARMY brought this to the TL during ARMYpedia since mostly no one remembered (or even knew of) it as cameras were banned because BH filmed—but then BH never released *any* pics or vid! + pic.twitter.com/vAuxfxcPY2— Ren⁷⟭⟬⟬⟭(busy) (@renkiger_) December 22, 2021
To the rest of the world, BTS provided a much-needed light and life during the COVID-19 pandemic with their hit songs “Dynamite”, “Life Goes On”, “Butter”, and “Permission to Dance”. But ARMYs would know how difficult that time was for the members due to the cancellation of the “Map of the Soul Tour” and the difficulty of performing in front of their fans, especially at the height of their careers. The footage from that era might make fans cry, but we will surely tune in even with tears blurring their vision.
ARMY know how 2018 was a dark time, with ugly rumors going around and the members sharing how they even contemplated disbanding. But now, despite the brief hiatus as the members complete their mandatory military enlistment, BTS and ARMY are able to trust in each other’s promise and look forward to 2025. In the documentary, we can expect to hear directly from the members about their thoughts on the events of 2018 and on the group’s future beginning in 2025.
