Apr 14, 2020   •   Bianca Katipunan

It might feel like you’ve already watched, listened, and read all of the movies, albums, and books that you have. Some of us have even given in to the temptation of joining Tiktok. And we’re all getting a little antsy, so staying glued to the same thing for hours could seem like a feat in itself. If you don’t quite have the attention span to watch a full-length movie or a series, here are some short films you can watch on Netflix that will help you beat cabin fever.

Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower

This short film tells the story of 14-year-old Joshua Wong, who stood up against the Chinese communist government. The story goes way back to 1997, when China took over Hong Kong from the British, promising to give autonomy to Hong Kong in the future. The promise was never granted, which is why Joshua rallied Hong Kong youth to protest against the Chinese Communist Party in 2014.

Heroin(e)

A film that sheds light on the problem of the increased intake of opioid drugs in America. Heroin(e) tells the story of three women who will do everything to stop the rapid increase of opioid drug users in West Virginia.

Paris is Burning

The story of the drag queens of New York, Paris is Burning sheds light on the different aspects of drag queens. The film shows the different aspects of the drag queen industry like homophobia, violence, racism, AIDS, and poverty.

Extremis

Letting a loved one go is the most painful decisions anyone could ever make. Extremis documents the lives of families who have to face the grief of letting their critically-ill loved one go. This documentary also sheds a light on the difficulties doctors face when they tell families that their loved one is close to passing.

World of Tomorrow

This animated short film is about a little girl named Emily, who embarks on an adventure of a lifetime with her clone from the future. She discovers a lot of important life lessons that all of us can relate to. This simple heart-warming tale is perfect for those who want a light and easy watch..

The White Helmets

This short film shows the brave warriors of the Syrian War. The White Helmets is about the lives of the Syrian rescuers who risk their lives in order to save people who got stuck under post-bombing rubble in Aleppo.

Little Witch Academia

This short animated film is about Akko, a girl who aspires to be a witch and enters the prestigious Luna Nova Magical Academy. Having no background in magic, she struggles to cope with the school’s curriculum. This all changes when she discovers a magical shiny rod.

The House of Small Cubes

As his town is being submerged in flood, a widower is forced to build additional levels on his house to survive. But while building more floors he suddenly drops his favorite smoking pipe in the water. While searching for his pipe, he sees flashbacks of his eventful life.
