It’s official, all the Eat Bulaga hosts we know and love have left the show. The mass exodus started on May 31 when Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon announced they’ve parted ways with TAPE Inc., the show’s production company. On the same day, other other hosts namely Paolo Ballesteros, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Maine Mendoza, Ryan Agoncillo, Allan K, and Ryzza Mae Dizon also resigned from TAPE Inc.
It’s the end of an era and everyone knows it. After 44 years, the longest-running noontime show will face a huge change. Although TAPE Inc. clarified that it the show will go on, but this time with a different set of faces, it’s going to be different from now on. On social media, current and former Dabarkads (Eat Bulaga family) post their heartfelt sentiments that will make you a bit emo.
Joey de Leon is part of the iconic TVJ trio that includes Tito Sotto and his brother Vic Sotto with the three being Eat Bulaga pioneer hosts. On Instagram, de Leon shared the full video of their announcement about leaving TAPE Inc. The next day, he uploaded a video of a child crying who, in between tears, tells him he still wants to watch the show.
“Wag ka nang umiyak, just pray and we’re working on it,” simply said de Leon.
Ruby Rodriguez, who left the show in 2021 to attend to the needs of his son, uploaded a series of Instagram photos commemorating her time as a Dabarkads.
“Eat Bulaga will forever be a part of me. This is where I met my husband and had my 2 kids. All dabarkads will forever be in my heart. I love Eat Bulaga. I love bulaga family,” she said in one of the posts.
Rodriguez also uploaded a photo of TVJ and captioned it with: “TVJ my Mentors, Idols, and most of all Friends. I love you with all my heart!”
Alden Richards simply posted a black-and-white photo of him and Vic Sotto facing opposite directions. He captioned it with three praying hand emojis. Richards also posted another photo of him on the Eat Bulaga stage with the caption “Always and forever.”
Ryan Agoncillo started his Eat Bulaga career in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since. He became one of the main hosts of the noontime show, making guests comfortable with his calm demeanor. On Instagram, Agoncillo posted a black and white photo of TVJ that said “Thank you, Eat Bulaga.”
Ice Seguerra started his showbiz career in Eat Bulaga when he was a three-year-old contestant in “Little Miss Philippines”. On Instagram, he mused about the show ending and said he didn’t know if he should feel happy or sad.
“Malungkot ako sa nangyayari. Sa kawalang respeto. Malungkot ako dahil sa hiwalayang Eat Bulaga at TAPE, mayroong mga taong mag-iiba ang lagay sa buhay. Nalukungkot akong umabot sa ganito,” he said.
“Pero masaya ako dahil malaya na sila. Bakit ka mananatili sa isang relasyong hindi ka naman masaya. Hindi rin ako natatakot sa kinabukasan ng programa. Ang Eat Bulaga ay Eat Bulaga. Kahit saang network sila mapadpad, walang paltos silang makakalipad.”
“Eat Bulaga meant so much to me. Forever grateful,” captioned Pauleen Luna-Sotto on an Instagram photo of herself, her husband Vic Sotto, and their daughter Tali. Luna-Sotto started on the show when she was only a teenager. It’s where she honed her hosting skills and where she also “found the man that [her] heart loves.”
Eat Bulaga turned Maine Mendoza’s life around in 2015 when they saw her potential for comedy and invited her to portray her Yaya Dub character. And we all know what happens next. She gets incidentally paired with Alden Richards, creating the love team AlDub and inspiring a cult following. Today, Mendoza pays tribute to the show with a set of photos she captioned with “Hanggang sa muli, dabarkads. Maraming salamat Eat Bulaga.”
Pinoys watched Ryzza Mae Dizon grow up on their screens from a cute kid to a teenager. She started her career when she won the noontime show’s Little Miss Philippines contest in 2012. The hosts found her too cute to handle and she became a regular part of Eat Bulaga. In 2015, TAPE Inc. even gave Dizon her own show called The Ryzza Mae Show where she had the opportunity to interview numerous celebrities.
Allan K’s first stint in Eat Bulaga was in 1995 when he became a host for the Bulagaan segment. Almost three decades later, he’s saying goodbye to the noontime show. While he did not post a photo of him on the show, he did upload a picture on Instagram of him holding a bag with the words “Let me hug you.”
Although she was only a Dabarkads for a short while in 2011, Iza Calzado has a special place in her heart for Eat Bulaga. Calzado took to Instagram to post fun throwback photos of her short stint as a host.
“Salamat sa lahat ng pagkakataon na ibinigay ninyo sa akin. Salamat sa pagtanggap sa akin at pagyakap bilang parte ng pamilya kahit sandali lang,” she said on Instagram.
