There comes a point in our life where we feel lost and purposeless. We start to get anxious as we see our peers who seemingly made it, and here we are, unsure of the path we’ve taken. It’s normal to feel that way, and it’s not the end of the world. If you’re feeling lost in life, here are things that you can do to get past this unmoored feeling.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re only human, prone to mistakes and imperfections. You’re not the only one who’s ever felt this way, and the road to the top isn’t ever going to be easy. Sometimes, we can’t help but fall, and that’s okay. Setbacks are inevitable. Take the lessons and pick yourself up again the next day.
The famous Theodore Roosevelt quote ”comparison is the thief of joy” will always be true. We all run at our own pace. We live different lives and experience different things. Maybe you think that your peers are getting ahead, but contrary to what some might say, it’s not a race. Maybe the universe has different plans for you.
Take this opportunity to reflect on who you are and where you stand. What are you doing at the moment? Is there anything you can improve on? Sometimes, all we need is a deep look at ourselves to get back on track. The answers could be lying right before our very eyes. Self-reflection is a great way to analyze ourselves in an objective manner, and we find ourselves in a different perspective.
A person who has mastered himself is unstoppable. Take time to truly know yourself, your principles, impulses, hobbies, and weaknesses. Self-awareness is the first step to growth. You must acknowledge that there is still room for improvement. (Protip: One great way to reflect is journaling.)
You might not know where your life is headed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t move onward and upward. Read self-development books to broaden your horizons and gain new perspectives. Upskill by taking online courses on what sparks your interest. By committing to self-development, you’ll be able to learn new things about yourself and get yourself back on course.
Even if you think there isn’t, trust me, there is. The smell of nature after the rain, the new season of your favorite Netflix show, a phone call from your mom, or your favorite comfort food. Sometimes, we are so consumed by life that we forget the little things, so stop and count your blessings.
Life gives chances to everyone, so if it’s fear that’s holding you back, quit overthinking! Having some guts goes a long way. Do not miss the chance to fulfill your dreams and change your life if you can.
Consistency is the most common trait of successful people. Being able to put in the work every day requires willpower and leads to mastery. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. You only lose when you quit.
What do you do when you’re feeling lost?
