Filipinos will name their kids anything. From anime characters to food — you name it, there’s probably a Pinoy kid out there struggling to write that on their test paper. It is obvious Pinoys have an affinity for creative names so much so that sometimes it goes overboard. But hey, as long as your kid will be free from any potential NBI HITs, funny Pinoy names work, right?

The Internet has always been fascinated with these borderline absurd names and a recent viral tweet has renewed everyone’s interest. In case you’re curious, here are some of the funniest and most amazing names Pinoy parents have given their kids:
Drink Water Rivera is the best Filipino name in existence. https://t.co/4tI2t1Zdb3 pic.twitter.com/Yrdq44J95a

We’ll give the Rivera parents plus points for the effort to match their kid’s name to the family name. Imagine if he grew up to be an Olympic swimmer! Mr. Drink Water Rivera’s name will forever be hailed as one of the most iconic quirky Pinoy names.
In 2014, the Pascual siblings caught the internet’s attention for their unusual names. According to the Pascual patriarch, he planned to only have two kids — a boy and a girl — and to give them unique names. Those unique names turned out to be Macaroni and Spaghetti. When Sincerely Yours 98 was born ten years later, she was Pascual parent’s “closing remarks.”
It’s also fascinating to mention that Macaroni 85’s kid is named HTML and Spaghetti 88’s kids are named Cheese Pimiento and Parmesan Cheese. Confirmed: The quirkiness runs in the blood.

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, it changed a lot of lives including those of innocent babies born to, uh, creative parents. We saw a number of unique names crop on the birth registry. It included Covid Bryant (possibly in honor of the basketball player’s death in early 2020), Covid Rose, Covidubidapdap, and Covid Marie. We wish we were joking but these are actual names written on actual birth certificates.
“Isa na namang bata ang napagtripan ng magulang,” read one comment on the post above. Xyzcherenathaneralei is indeed a challenging name to pronounce and we bet you skipped reading the whole thing.

Yes, we kid you not. Somewhere in Davao, a kid is walking around with three names straight from an anime. Imagine his parents getting mad at him and using his government name. What a funny mouthful!

This a testament to the influence and power of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones. Or, you know, his knack for inventing beautiful names.
“Di po addict parents ko,” said ABCDE AEIOU. We would still want to know what they were thinking when they gave you that name.
If ABCDE AEIOU thought he had it tough, what about these siblings literally named after the alphabet? Granted ABCDE, GHJI, and XYZA sound cool. We’re still wondering why their parents skipped a couple of letters. JLMNO would be cooler.
Philip is a very normal name, but his surname is Ines and he became a police captain, so he became… Captain Philippines.
Still one of my fave examples 😂 https://t.co/RWRvtDPaJq pic.twitter.com/h2ECuYxpJ6

Sometimes you don’t choose a name, the name chooses you. Capt. Philipp Ines’ parents thought they were clever naming their kid. What they probably didn’t know is that he was destined to protect the Filipino people and become a police captain. A literal Captain Philippines.
Last but not the least, these kids that are named after IRL personalities. It’s weird seeing Beyonce have a Filipino surname!
