The Grammys is always the fun awards show wherein the music industry celebrates some of the best musical acts that have graced the industry in the past and present. The Award show often gives tribute to the legends of the music industry, reminding people why these artists are well-loved by the public while showcasing their influential work.
A number of prominent artists graced this year’s Grammys, but these 8 moments are just some of the memorable numbers during music’s biggest night.
These two artists have been teasing fans all weekend with a possible collab (along with Mark Ronson), and the duo surprised audiences with their electrifying performance of In My Blood.
The Grammy nominated (and Oscar nominated) singer won a Grammy even before the show started. Lady Gaga continued her winning streak throughout the night when she won another Grammy for “Shallow”, which is also a frontrunner at this year’s Academy awards. She then gave a rousing performance of her hit song, accompanied by Mark Ronson.
The rapper made history when his song “This Is America” picked up the Grammy for Song of the Year, the first rap song to win the said category. The song also won a Grammy for Best Music Video.
The former FLOTUS made a surprise appearance at the awards show to share how music has “always helped me tell my story.” Obama appeared during host Alicia Keys’ opening monologue, and was later joined by Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Jennifer Lopez.
There is a reason why Alicia Keys had won 15 Grammys and is still as relevant as ever today. The singer earned praises for her hosting duties as well as her memorable performance wherein she performed songs she wish she’d written, including Drake’s “In My Feelings”, Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody”, and an actual song she’d written, the iconic “Empire State of Mind”.
The Academy award-nominated actor is now also a legit Grammy winner! Cooper won a Grammy for his and Lady Gaga’s song “Shallow”.
Alicia Keys shared a touching moment to the audience at this year’s Grammys when she told the story on how she was so sure that she’d win Song of the Year at the 2005 Grammy Awards, only to lose to John Mayer.
The singer then mentioned that Mayer “broke his award in half” and gave the other half to her. Mayer then appeared on stage and put the pieces back together, announcing then that Childish Gambino won the category at this year’s Grammys.
There was a rumor days before the awards show that Drake will snub this year’s Grammys, but the rapper made a surprise appearance as he accepted his award for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his song “God’s Plan”. Mid-speech, the rapper was cut-off after he “shaded” the whole idea of awards shows.
