It’s been a massive month for Apple fans. We’ve got our new iPhone, along with other gadget updates like new watches and earphones. But for those who aren’t looking into upgrading their gadgets yet, a simple operating system upgrade could be enough to make their devices feel brand new. The latest iOS upgrade just dropped this morning, and if you’re curious to know its exciting new features, we’ve got you covered.
Are you tired of using third-party apps to create a functional Home Screen that matches your aesthetic? The latest iOS 18 makes the Home Screen your playground with exciting ways to customize it. You can arrange your apps and widgets in an open space (they no longer arrange themselves when you move apps around!), make them smaller or bigger, and choose between a light, dark, or tinted look. You can even change all your apps’ colors to your favorite color!
The Control Center is also getting a brand-new refresh, allowing you to access phone features easily. For the first time ever, you can also change or remove the controls on the Lock Screen.
Love taking photos? The new Photos app allows you to relive special moments by organizing your photos into categories: from Trips and Recent Days to People & Pets. Looking for that fond memory wouldn’t be so difficult anymore. You can rearrange these categories and pin the ones that matter the most, whether it’s your favorite summer trip or photos with your family and partner.
Take your group chats to the next level with more formatting options for text, such as bold, italic, strikethrough, and underline. There are also new effects to make messages more fun and more Tapback options for reacting to messages. When you no longer feel like typing, the Tapbacks will be your best friend.
Here’s one major update: iMessage now allows you to compose and schedule a message to send later. The Message app also allows you to record and transcribe live calls, and they’re automatically saved to your Notes app — super handy for work.
Never miss important emails with the new categorization feature in the Mail app. Though this feature will be available later this year, the improved app will arrange your emails according to Primary, Promotions, Updates, and Transactions.
Are you annoyed by ad banners and overlays when browsing the web? Safari’s Distraction Control allows you to hide them, making reading more seamless.
Did you know that Safari is the fastest browser in the world? You can now browse webpages and read ~more~ articles as Safari’s redesigned Reader brings better ways to read an article. It provides a streamlined view, a summary, and even a table of contents if you’re reading longer articles. You don’t have to keep scrolling anymore!
How often have you tried recalling your passwords when opening social media accounts or accessing your bank app? To make things easier, Apple created a brand-new Passwords app that allows you to view all your credentials and passwords in one place. Don’t worry, though; this app is backed by end-to-end encryption. It also syncs across all your devices and sends alerts when passwords have been used multiple times or when they could be easily guessed.
Now, this is the most important question of it all. Which iPhone models will allow you to discover and experience the new iOS features?
And if you don’t see the iPhone model you’re using, take this as a sign to upgrade to a newer model or treat yourself to the latest iPhone 16.
Which iOS feature are you looking forward to trying?
