Twitter is on fire thanks to actress Liza Soberano. In a couple of tweets, she directly questioned what the government is doing to handle the escalating COVID-19 cases in the country. At a time when many expect celebrities to do nothing but distract people from this far-from-ideal situation we’re in, Liza isn’t afraid to dish out her opinions. What happened?
Liza’s initial tweet questioned how the government is dealing with the COVID situation in the country. She also sympathized with “all the people who cannot afford not to go out and work.” Since multiple kinds of lockdowns are implemented in NCR+, major cities are back to restrictions upon restrictions. “Is our country really this poor to no be able to provide stimulus??” she continued.
My heart bleeds for all the people who cannot afford not to go out and work. They literally have to choose between dying of starvation or dying of covid. Is our country really this poor to no be able to provide stimulus?? Genuine question lang po.

Liza’s tweets came after news that NCR+ (pertaining to Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna, and Cavite) would be placed under a GCQ bubble until Apr. 4. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that the government will not be handing out financial aid or ayuda since establishments inside the bubble aren’t required to close.
On Mar. 23, the Department of Health reported 8,019 new cases in the country, the highest single-day tally in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
“Where is the support for the poor in our country?” Liza continued. “Madali lang naman po mag stay at home if everyone has food on the table and money to pay the bills.”
America has received 2 rounds of stimulus already, waiting on the 3rd. Covid testing is free, vaccination is free. Where is the support for the poor in our country? Madali lang naman po mag stay at home if everyone has food on the table and money to pay the bills.

JFYI, the Philippine Statistics Authority also announced earlier that over 4 million Filipinos are unemployed as of Jan 2021.
While many netizens backed her up, the fact that she compared the Philippines’ situation to that of the US, a first-world country, irked others. Some question her intent for posting and whether she has studied all the factors before sending her tweets.
Others pointed out that her tweets do nothing to “save the Philippines”.
But over the course of the pandemic, Liza has prepared hundreds of food packs for frontliners and health workers, complete with handwritten notes. She has also donated her belongings to raise funds for mass testing. Even though she’s a private individual, she’s doing the best she can to shed light on the harsh reality that the underprivileged need help.
After receiving so much hate for her tweets, some netizens expressed concern for Liza’s wellbeing. She responded, “I’m not stepping on anybody’s toes. I’m just a tax payer expressing her frustration.”
They probably aren’t even real people so why get hurt by their bashing? I’m not stepping on anybody’s toes. I’m just a tax payer expressing her frustration.

Liza ended her short Twitter rant with a tweet that resonated with many. She said that she doubts if voicing her concerns would do anything, even though her tweets did spark quite a conversation. “We can only pray for compassion now,” she says. “Stay home if you can.”
Hayy I honestly don’t even know if my tweets/ my voice is actually doing anything. We can only pray for compassion now. Good night everyone! God bless all of you. Stay home if you can. 🙏🏼❤️
