‘NewJeans Lustre’: Nadine’s Old Hit Song Just Became an Unexpected Dance Craze on Tiktok

Tiktok dance crazes have been around since the app’s inception. We’ve got Tiktok stars like Niana Guerrero making choreography that is even covered by K-pop idols. Some artists even make Tiktok dance challenges to make their songs go viral. But sometimes, all it takes to go viral on Tiktok is to match a well-known choreography with an equally well-loved song, as is the case of what people are dubbing “NewJeans Lustre.”
It’s a match
This new Tiktok dance challenge makes an old song revived with a new dance, with the choreography of “Hype Boy” by K-pop rising stars NewJeans (2022) danced to our president Nadine Lustre’s song “Paligoy-ligoy” from 2014! Surprisingly, the choreography matches the beat of the chorus perfectly.
The originator
The new dance challenge seems to have begun after P-pop girl group BINI’s Maloi posted a video of herself dancing “Hype Boy” to “Paligoy-ligoy.”

Other challengers
Tiktok stars, influencers, and other netizens have jumped on the trend. Some have also edited clips of their K-pop idols dancing the choreo to the tune of “Paligoy-ligoy.”
