‘One True Pair: The Movie’ Hits All the Right the Feels for Every JLC-Bea Fan

Dec 1, 2021   •   Meryl Medel

The much-awaited comeback of one of the longest known love teams in Philippine television is finally here! Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz, following their consecutive network switches, just came out with their first project together since 2015 — and fans are so ~kilig~ to the bones.

The short film

We all deserve some kilig at the start of December—cheers to John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. #JollibeeOneTruePairMovie ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Everyone has been looking forward to the reunion of this love team, and their comeback couldn’t have come at a better time. The two actually teased their fans, saying how much they welcome working with one another again. “It’s only a matter of time,” said JLC. And here they really are!

JLC and Bea reunited to show us a glimpse of what might’ve happened when they decided to do their comeback movie together again in Jollibee’s short film One True Pair. Say thank you, Jollibee!

Director-fan

Bago pa man akong maging direktor at maging part ng industriyang ito, ako ay isa munang JLC-Bea fan. Ilang beses ko ring isinabuhay ang One More Chance. Chos!

— JP Habac (@jphabac) December 1, 2021

The film was directed by JP Habac who is best known for his feature film I’m Drunk, I Love You. Direk JP is the ultimate JLC-Bea fan who has unlocked the highest level of being a fan of this love team by getting to work with them. Sana all.

True to life?

Hindi niyo naman sinabing ikukwento niyo pala buhay niyo? Shet sakit. Char!

The plot of the short film is simple: after being away for a while, an actor and an actress who are well-known as a love team onscreen are being recruited to do another movie together as a comeback. After the two agree to do the project, they go on walks and drives and reminisce about their time together. Sound familiar? Fans think this could be Bea and JLC in real life, especially with these new chapters in their showbiz career. Different names, but same feels.

Walang kupas

Netizens all agree — the two still made every fan as kilig as they have always done. The difference, this time, is that the onscreen love team gives a more mature vibe now compared to their film characters all those years ago.

“After all the pain, love remains.”

Fitting music

The short film was accompanied by the perfect song to the film’s story vibes — “Pasalubong” by Ben&Ben and Moira Dela Torre. Oh, that scene with the two of them just exchanging looks while on a drive with the sunset casting golden light over them! So much kilig, but also equally as much to unpack there. (We’re still trying to move on from the ‘All Too Well’ film, please!)

Lessons

The film also hit some hard notes in some viewers. A crowd favorite is one of Bea’s line: “Alam mo, ‘yung puso, kahit nadurog na ‘yun, tumitibok pa rin. Kaya pa rin magmahal nang buo.” Wow, if that ain’t true. And it doesn’t even just apply to romantic love, y’know? It’s for all kinds of love and life in general, too.

— B (@iambeaacruz) November 30, 2021

And of course, JLC’s line about the fourth love, the love beyond the romance. Netizens can’t help but feel like the onscreen couple is talking about their IRL relationship. Despite working together for so long on so many projects, the two have denied all rumors of romance between them. But they’ve remained very good friends in real life, and they’re very happy for each other (why does this film feel so real?!). Sana mahanap rin natin lahat yun.

The actors on working together again

“He brings out the best in me”
“She’s an ally. She understands me, that’s very comforting”

WALANG KUPAS na chemistry.
OO na manonood na kami bukas ng movie nyo. HAHA.#JLCBeaForJollibee pic.twitter.com/KVDSUUximG

— Kdrama Ahjumma (@kdrama_ahjumma) November 30, 2021

The love team has spent a decade working together as an onscreen couple, but they’ve still got it. They began their journey as an onscreen couple in 2002 in the teleserye Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. They would be celebrating their ~20th anniversary~ (20! Yes 20!) as a love team in July next year. “Malapit na tayong mag-silver, ‘no?!” JLC joked in a Facebook livestream to promote the short film. “You know, mas matagal pa sa ibang marriages!”

Time for the perfect pair

Now that you’ve gotten so kilig and nostalgic with this short film, you could binge their films and shows while enjoying your perfect pair from Jollibee. These netizens definitely went for it, and you should treat yourself, too.
