If there’s one thing the Paris 2024 Olympics showed us aside from, of course, being a sporting spectacle that showcased the pinnacle of human physicality, it’s that romance is definitely not dead. Held at the City of Love, the Games ignited a global obsession with romance at the Olympics. From heartwarming proposals to adorable couple moments, athletes stole our hearts as much as they did medals. And now we can’t stop playing Taylor Swift’s “The Alchemy” on repeat (IYKYK). Here are just 8 couples at the Olympics that made us swoon.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard the news of Swedish-American pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis retaining his Olympic gold and smashing the world record on the same night. However, it was his post-victory celebration that truly captured hearts worldwide. After soaring to new heights with a 6.25-meter jump, Mondo made a beeline for his girlfriend, Desire Inglander, sharing a kiss that instantly made the whole world swoon. Romance is not dead, that’s for sure.
Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi gave Paris 2024 an extra Olympic ring when he lost his wedding band during the Parade of Nations. The 32-year-old was named one of his country’s flag bearers, and in the flurry of activities, somehow, his ring slipped from his finger and into the River Seine. Tamberi then wrote a heartfelt apology to his wife of two years, Chiara Tamberi, and had the world second-guessing whether he was a poet or an athlete.
“But if it was meant to happen, if I’m really going to lose this faith, I couldn’t imagine a better place. It will stay forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I tried to carry the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sporting event in the world,” wrote Tamberi.
“And if you want, we’ll throw yours in that river, too, so they’ll be together forever and we’ll have one more excuse to, like you’ve always asked, renew our vows and get married [anew],” he added.

Light a scene straight from a K-drama, Chinese mixed doubles badminton player Huang Ya Qiong snagged a gold and a diamond at Paris 2024. After winning the title with her doubles partner, Zheng Siwei, Huang went on a victory lap that ended with her boyfriend, Liu Yuchen (also part of China’s badminton team), down on one knee.
“For me, the proposal is very surprising because I have been preparing for the game,” said Huang in an interview. “Today I am an Olympic champion and I got proposed (to), so that’s something I didn’t expect.”
From high school sweethearts to Olympic power couple, Tara and Hunter Woodhall have defied expectations. Tara bagged gold at the women’s long jump final after landing a 7.10-meter jump. She then sprinted to the stands and leapt into her husband’s ready arms. Hunter, a double amputee runner with three Paralympic medals to his name, just had to exclaim: “Babe, you’re the Olympic champion!”

Hallmark fans and hopeless romantics are eating up the unexpected romance brewing between ex-lovers and tennis players Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac. Their Olympic mixed doubles gold medal victory, followed by a shared kiss, sent shockwaves through social media. Once a couple of four years, their reunion on the court sparked rumors of a rekindled romance. The pair reportedly broke up after dating for four years, but there’s nothing like the high of winning at the Olympics to bring them together again. While information is scant on whether they are back together (“That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” Siniakova said in an interview), we’re still happy for this real-life sports romance. It definitely has all the makings of a blockbuster romantic comedy.
Noah and Junelle are the epitome of athletic power couples. Representing rival nations, their love story is as fast-paced as their races. After Team USA track star Noah Lyles cleared everyone at the men’s 100m race, earning him his first gold, he ran straight to his Team Jamaica girlfriend and fellow runner Junelle Bromfield to celebrate. In an interview, Noah shared that Junelle slid into his DMs in 2017, but they officially started dating in 2022. And now this dynamic duo is officially one of the fastest couples in the world. Relationship goals!
It was a fairytale moment for Argentinan athletes Pablo Simonet and Maria Campoy, who are actually the first couple to get engaged in Paris 2024. During a pre-opening ceremony team photo, handball player Pablo dropped to one knee and proposed to his hockey star girlfriend, Maria. With the iconic River Seine as their backdrop and their teammates as witnesses, the couple officially got engaged.

Aleksandra Mirosław etched her name in the history books with a jaw-dropping performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Not only did she clinch the gold medal in speed climbing, but she also shattered her own world record with a blistering time of 6.06 seconds. Immediately after being hailed the winner, Aleksandra ran to her coach and husband, Mateusz, to celebrate. The pair shared a sweet moment, seemingly oblivious to the electric atmosphere around them.
It’s safe to say the Olympics have officially left us feeling like single couch potatoes, but we don’t mind. BRB, going to sign me and bae up at the Olympics.
