Pinoys can’t help but roast the Sa Kamay ng Diyos movie poster, saying it’s “peak graphic design.” There’s something about the hastily edited poster with blinding text colors that makes it feel as if it belongs in the 80s. ICYDK, the movie is Rev. Jonard N. Pamor’s biopic which is now showing in SM Cinemas nationwide. If you’re confused, you’re not alone. The Internet also has a number of burning questions about the movie ranging from “Who is Rev. Pamor and why does he have a biopic?” and “How did Aljur Abrenica land that role?” to “Are we sure someone from the 21st century created that poster?”
Not much is known about Pamor’s biopic plot wise but based on the trailer uploaded on social media, this guy has lived quite an eventful life. He’s been in fist fights with neighbors, gun fights while working as a security guard, and survived an illness thanks to a priest’s blessing. The trailer even showed Abrenica’s character praying in the middle of what looks to be a… water tornado of goldfish.
We’re confused too.
Aside from Abrenica, the movie also stars veteran actress Elizabeth Oropesa. It’s produced by JPM Film Productions where Pamor himself is the acting president and CEO.
“Ang ganitong pelikula ay magandang panoorin dahil katotohanan ang inilalahad. Ito po ay tunay na nangyari sa buhay ni Pastor Jonard.. At ipinakikita rito na walang impossible sa langit,” said Oropesa during an interview about the movie.
Sa Kamay ng Diyos had one chance to create a splash online and they took it, but it wasn’t the 90’s style trailer complete with the booming voice narration that did it. It was the poster. SM Cinemas uploaded this specific poster, if you haven’t seen it yet:
It managed to transport us back to the early 90s when not many knew of social media or editing tools like Photoshop and Canva. It singlehandedly awakened memories of hand-painted movie billboards at Recto or your Grade 6 short film project rushed in the wee hours of the morning. It’s giving high school group presentation.
Abrenica standing in the middle of a water tornado of goldfish looks like it was screen captured from the trailer and slapped on top of a low-quality mountain range photo. The arctic blue text didn’t help matters either.
“Graphic design is my passion,” read one comment on Facebook under the post which currently has 10k reactions.
“[Parang] Twister Part 3 – The Water Bender,” said another.
Others commented on the graphic effects saying it looks like Hiraya Manawari‘s iconic unrealistic GFX.
Yet another Pinoy roasted the poster saying it looked like something out of Pokemon: “Ganda ng poster parang whirlwind ni pidgeotto.”
Even photographer Geloy Concepcion had to jump in: “Dapat tulad ng Public Attorneys Office para sa mga abogado, meron ding Public Graphic Designers Office na pinapasweldo ng gobyerno eh. JPM production, next time po kahit libre na tulungan ko na po kayo kahit di ako graphic designer.”
This wasn’t even the only poster for Sa Kamay ng Diyos. A Reporters TV news revealed there’s another version of the poster, equally as questionable and outdated:
May we have a word with the artist?
We don’t know what’s going on with this movie poster but one thing we do know is that if this is their twisted version of marketing, it’s working. (We’re just not sure if it will translate to ticket sales.)
If all that piqued your interest, check out the trailer below or head straight to the nearest SM Cinema and buy a ticket. And let us know afterwards what you think about it.
