The Hype Is Strong with This One: 8 Most Epic Reveals from Star Wars Celebration 2023

Apr 7, 2023   •   Cristina Morales

We may be halfway around the world from the festivities at the Star Wars Celebration, but we can still feel the hype all the way from London. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the most exciting announcements from Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023.

Andor

Creator Tony Gilroy shared that the highly anticipated second and final season of Andor will debut in August 2024, not long after production wraps up in August of this year.

Gilroy was also pleased to confirm that he and the team behind Andor have a clear idea of where their story is heading and when it’s ending. Knowing exactly where they’re going has been “creatively potent,” according to Gilroy, granting them all the freedom they need to craft an epic conclusion to this beloved series.

The Acolyte

Via Twitter

Creator Leslye Headland revealed that the show will take place between the High Republic and the beginning of the Prequel films, making it the furthest back a live-action Star Wars series has ever been set in time. When asked about her vision for The Acolyte, Headland compared it to a mix between Frozen and Kill Bill and cited Akira Kurosawa’s films of the 1950s as inspiration.

Ahsoka

At the event, Rosario Dawson confirmed that the Ahsoka series will be arriving in August 2023. Mary Elizabeth Winstead also announced her casting as Hera Syndulla and shared a short teaser trailer on stage alongside Dawson.

The show follows the adventures of Ahsoka Tano, a young adult Jedi warrior who has already established herself as a fan favorite in The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. Now, we will get an even closer look at her journey when this live-action show debuts.

Three new live-action Star Wars films

Star Wars fans have much to look forward to with the announcement of three new live-action films, each helmed by renowned directors James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. With such pedigrees behind the camera, the anticipation for these new films is sky-high. Here’s the gist of the films, in no particular order:

Film #1 will explore the beginnings of the Jedi

Mangold explores the dawn of the Jedi in his film. This is a period of time that has never been explored in any Star Wars film and should provide a unique perspective on the origins of this fabled order.

Film #2 will focus on the New Republic

Dave Filoni, the mastermind behind The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, will be focusing on the New Republic and closing out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series. This is sure to be a must-see for fans of those series.

Film #3 will continue Rey’s story

Meanwhile, Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to helm a film following the events of The Rise of Skywalker, featuring Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey as she seeks to build a new Jedi Order. Obaid-Chinoy brings a unique vision to the project, promising an exciting and thought-provoking addition to the Star Wars canon.

BONUS: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Fans also got a first look at the new trailer of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which will be Harrison Ford’s final Indiana Jones film.

Set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18, and with its theatrical release set for June 30, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny promises to be a thrilling adventure filled with action and excitement. Joining Harrison Ford in this epic adventure are some of the biggest names in the industry, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Directed by James Mangold, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to deliver a stunning cinematic experience. With legendary composer John Williams scoring this iconic franchise once again, fans can expect nothing but the best from this epic adventure.
