This Epic Fan Event Was a Glimpse of What Taylor Swift The Eras Tour Philippines Would Be Like

May 24, 2023   •   Kyzia Maramara

Pinoy Swifties are willing to do everything to get Taylor Swift back in Manila. In a bid to have Blondie include the Philippines in her The Eras Tour international tour dates, fan organization Swiftie Philippines hosted its own The Eras Festival in Manila last May 21 at the Trinoma Activity Center. It brought thousands of Pinoy Swifties together to celebrate Taylor’s music. Picture it: The Eras Tour in the Philippines. Here’s what a taste of that looks like:

The Eras Festival in Manila

Filipino Swifties crowd screams “We want The Eras Tour in the Philippines. We love you Taylor Swift” 🫶✨

Taylor Swift is currently in the middle of the U.S. leg of her sixth headlining tour, The Eras Tour. It’s a record-breaking three-hour concert has her playing 44 songs across her entire discography, even including surprise numbers for every city.

As the U.S. leg is set to end in August, many are speculating that Taylor will be announcing international dates soon. In a bid to include the Philippines on the Asian leg of the tour, Swifties Philippines hopes The Eras Festival in Manila is enough to get Taylor’s attention.

During the event, thousands of Pinoy Swifties came together and filled the Activity Center. Many even watched from the balconies, instantly transforming the whole place into MOA Arena, and sang along with the crowd.

This isn’t the first time Swifties Philippines hosted an event like this. They also held The Eras Festival in Manila last March 31 at Ayala Malls Manila Bay where hundreds of Swifties also attended.

The last time Taylor herself graced the Philippines with her presence was in June 2014 for the Southeast Asian leg of her Red tour. Pinoys want to see her perform live so much that we’ve conjured up our own Taylor Swift (Pinoy version).

Meet Taylor Sheesh (real name Mac), a Taylor Swift impersonator and drag queen who single-handedly put on the show:

Sheesh pulled out all the stops — lip-syncing to songs complete with replicas of Taylor’s costumes and performing for over an hour. After the event, Sheesh took to Instagram to thank the organizers and the crowd. They even hinted at having more mall shows in the future. We’re definitely down for that!

The event even made it to Rolling Stone

Swiftie Philippines, Sheesh, and Pinoy Swifties trended #WeWantErasTourPhilippines on Twitter. Clips from the event went so viral, even Rolling Stone had to pick it up and report on it. Hopefully, all this international attention helps reach Taylor’s team and let her know how much the Philippines want to see her on our shores.

Are we even surprised that a Taylor Swift fan-organized event could pull these numbers? After all, she’s the Philippines’ most-streamed artist in 2022. Spotify even revealed last year that Quezon City is among the top cities worldwide listening to Taylor. Filipinos love Blondie and deserve to see her perform in our country too.

Reports also say that Swiftie Philippines organizations from Visayas and Mindanao are also set to organize their own event in Cebu and Davao, respectively.

Hopefully, these efforts are enough to put the Philippines on Taytay’s radar!

Kyzia spends most of her time capturing the world around her through photos, paragraphs, and playlists. She is constantly on the hunt for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and a great paperback thriller to pair with it.
