The Mandalorian season 3 is finally here, which means fans can look forward to eight fresh episodes of excitement and action-packed drama. After watching the first two episodes, here’s our take on what fans can look forward to.
To those of you who skipped The Book of Boba Fett, it might be confusing to see Grogu (aka Baby Yoda aka The Child) back with our titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). The first episode’s recap didn’t delve into what had happened, so for fans who want a deeper dive, it’s definitely worth plumbing through Boba Fett, which almost serves as a Season 2.5 to The Mandalorian.
However, if you just want the CliffNotes version of the essential plot points you missed in Boba Fett, here they are:
[Warning: Major spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett ahead, but if you’ve already watched the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 3, you’re good. Keep reading.]
Pedro Pascal, the internet’s daddy, returns to play, well, a daddy. Mando and Grogu definitely embrace their father/child dynamic this season, and from the first two episodes alone, it’s already interesting to see how the characters and their relationship develop.
The season starts with Mando journeying to Mandalore to atone for his mistake of removing his helmet. Will he succeed and be accepted by his order again? What other things will he go through this season? We’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store for him.
Mandalorians are the focus of this season, and we finally get to see more of their culture and customs. The show will explore further into the long-forgotten practices, so viewers can expect some thrilling revelations about why these people chose a life of solitude and secrecy. We also expect to learn more about the relationship between Mando and his people, as well as their relationship with other cultures.
For the first time, we get to see the Planet Mandalore post-purge of the Empire. It’s been a long-time coming and fans should expect some crazy scenery throughout this almost-dead planet. It will be interesting to see what has happened to a once great and feared society.
(The last time we saw planet Mandalore in its full glory was during the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated TV show.)
The fan-favorite character Bo Katan (Katee Sackhoff) is set to return this season and seems to be more prominent than ever. She’s a leader of her people and wants the dark saber that Mando currently has, so it’ll be interesting to see how she influences the story this time around. Whether viewers are familiar with the lore or not, Bo Katan will definitely be a character to watch out for as she brings many implications to the Mandalorians and Planet Mandalore.
With Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) showing up in Season 2, fans have been speculating that we might finally get to see some other characters from past animated Star Wars TV shows. Will this be finally the season where we see the return of the likes of Ezra Bridger or Sabine Wren? Or maybe even Grand Admiral Thrawn? Here’s hoping we get a glimpse of some of them in preparation for the spinoff TV show, Ahsoka.
(Also, those who have watched Star Wars: Rebels should look out for an easter egg in the first episode)
Episode 1 of The Mandalorian Season 3 just premiered on March 1, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday. Watch it on Disney+.
