Rejoice, theater fans! Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is finally arriving in the Philippines. Here’s what you need to know about the show and how you can get tickets:

The Sound of Music arrives in Manila

Thanks to GMG Productions, the same company that handled We Will Rock You last year, the Philippines is finally getting to see one of the most beloved musicals. Manila is the second stop of the production’s international tour, coming after the Singapore leg last November 2022.

The musical will run from March 7 to March 26 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater. There is one show from Tuesday to Friday at 8 PM, while Saturdays and Sundays have two schedules at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM. There are no shows on Mondays to give the cast and crew time to rest.

The running time of the show is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, with Act One estimated at 90 minutes and Act Two at 55 minutes with a 20-minute interval.

What The Sound of Music is all about

A timeless classic, The Sound of Music is based on the memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers set in Austria in 1938. The musical tells the story of Maria, who finds herself becoming a governess to a large family. Without a mother and only raised by a strict father, the seven Von Trapp children find their lives becoming more colorful as the fun-loving Maria reintroduces them to music. As the children see their governess as a mother figure, Maria also finds herself falling in love with the children’s father, the widowed Captain Von Trapp.

The original 1959 Broadway production won five Tony Awards, while the 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria won five Oscars.

How to get tickets for The Sound of Music

Ticket prices for the show start at PHP 1,587 for weekday shows and PHP 1,904.40 for weekend shows. The best seats are priced at PHP 6,348 during weekdays and PHP 6,877 during the weekend.
