8 Reasons Why You Should Travel Solo at Least Once in Your Life

8 Reasons Why You Should Travel Solo at Least Once in Your Life

Jan 30, 2024   •   Edgardo Toledo

They say traveling brings people closer together, but not everyone agrees with that sentiment. Having an entourage during trips can get chaotic, no matter how you try to be the resident peacemaker. If you’re entertaining the idea of traveling alone, these opinions on a Pinoy Reddit discussion might help you decide.

8. You don’t have to wait for anybody’s availability

Anyone who travels with their friends or family knows scheduling a trip without someone backing out at the last minute is the hardest. But if you take other people out of the itinerary, you can pack your bags anytime and roll.

7. You’re free to splurge as you please

What’s a trip without some shopping, right? Traveling solo lets you roam all the shopping districts without someone constantly reminding you to control your spending or telling you that you’re buying too much stuff. Your money, your rules.

6. No drama

One of the best ways to ruin your vacation is to have people bickering like toddlers. That’s why it’s best to keep your own company instead of dealing with moody or whiny folks all day. And even if you’re the one feeling grumpy, you have nobody else to annoy but yourself.

5. You’re the boss

Traveling with a group can derail your plans because not everyone shares the same interests as you do. If you’re alone, however, the world is your playground. Want to go somewhere by just walking? Go ahead! Planning to spend the whole day in one location? Take all the time you need. You call the shots.

4. It opens you to new experiences

Traveling alone has this magic of opening your eyes once-in-a-lifetime experiences. You don’t need to rely on anybody to wake up early or locate your next stop. You suddenly transform into this brand new person overflowing with so much learning and adventures that’ll make many people scream, “Sana all!”.

3. You get to meet new people

Meeting new people from all over the world is part of the solo vacation experience. (Just make sure you do it safely.) If you’re lucky, you might have newfound friends to go on trips with next time.

2. It makes you braver and more confident

It takes courage and maturity to explore and unwind in foreign lands, considering things could go south at any minute. You might even beat your vacation fears, like eating or sleeping in a hotel room alone. If you can pull that off, you’re braver than you give yourself credit.

1. You can be true to yourself

Call it cliché, but solo travel has the magic of bringing out your truest self. Having too many people around can be overwhelming at times, to the point that you can’t even hear your thoughts. Traveling solo gives you a moment to reflect and find momentary peace from the everyday chaos life brings.

I started solo traveling since 2023 and I loved it sooo much that I already booked 2 solo trips for 2024. I love reliving the hassle free experience of having an entire hotel room to yourself, not taking turns in the shower, not being dragged off early in the morning just to hit the breakfast buffet and best of all, taking my time enjoying every moment I’m away from work.
