New Twitter Restrictions by Elon Musk Sparks Netizens’ Ire

Twitter is one of the world’s most popular social media apps, and it won’t be an exaggeration to say that millions spend their day lounging, mindlessly scrolling the app to infinity. It’s like everyone’s little diary of daily shenanigans in real-time. But it looks like the glory days of endless tweeting are ending — well, at least for now — after a series of temporary restrictions from Elon Musk. Now, many are asking: Is this the end for the bird app?
Over the weekend, business magnate Elon Musk went on Twitter to announce new temporary restrictions — which isn’t surprising after all the changes the social media app has gone through since his acquisition. Musk said the “temporary limits” were implemented to address excessive “data scraping & system manipulation.”
To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:
– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts to 300/day— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 1, 2023
Twitter imposed a post viewing limits for verified (6,000 posts a day), unverified (600 posts a day), and new unverified accounts (300 a day).
On the same day, however, Musk scrapped his initial announcement and said this:
Rate limits increasing soon to 8000 for verified, 800 for unverified & 400 for new unverified https://t.co/fuRcJLifTn

And this:
The reason I set a “View Limit” is because we are all Twitter addicts and need to go outside.
I’m doing a good deed for the world here.
Also, that’s another view you just used.

At this point, it’s quite hard to know if this is just another episode of ~*What It Feels Like to Live Inside Musk’s World,*~ so go figure it out.
As of writing, Musk’s tweet announcement now has over half a billion views and counting. If that doesn’t tell you how big of a deal these new post restrictions are, we don’t know what will. The bottom line is, though, people were shocked.
Some are worried the newly-implemented Twitter restrictions may affect social interactions and friendships, which is a valid point since the internet has become an extension of our social lives.
With all theses Twitter restrictions, it’s interesting as someone who has 90% of their social interaction and friendships have been online I worry about people spreading elsewhere or losing connections to folk.

Others say they don’t see any point in using Twitter once the temporary content restrictions become permanent.
There won’t be any point using twitter if these restrictions are permanent

And on a lighter note, one of the OG social networking websites, Tumblr, poked fun at Twitter’s new content restrictions.
However, a bunch of the discourse feels the backlash over Twitter’s temporary content restrictions reflects the “perils of excessive consumerism and overreliance on apps.”
Observing the uproar over Elon Musk’s Twitter restrictions highlights the perils of excessive consumerism and overreliance on apps. A reminder to reevaluate your priorities and find balance beyond digital dependencies. Moving to a new app? Lol. Maybe go outside. Reclaim agency.
