Before it was even released for public use, the new P1,000 bill has faced a lot of controversies from replacing WWII heroes with the Philippine eagle to changing the material to polymer. This was followed by several reminders from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to take care of the new polymer banknotes, instructing Filipinos to avoid folding, creasing, crumpling, ironing, stapling, or using a rubber band when handling the new P1,000 bill.


Earlier this week, a social media post went viral telling a story of a 1,000-peso banknote allegedly getting rejected as payment. The mall has since denied these claims, but netizens are still criticizing the difficulty of handling the new banknotes. Well, since it seems citizens will need to adapt to the banknote, we compiled a list of hilarious recommendations on how you can protect the new P1,000 polymer bill.

 

Exchange it for coins


Why worry about damaging your 1,000 peso bill when you can just lug around a couple of hundred 5-peso coins everywhere you go? You won’t even need to look for change to pay your fare at the jeep.

 

Supersize your wallet


If the money itself got longer, then maybe we should simply adjust and get a longer wallet — or so says BSP.

A couple of weeks ago, BSP recommended using longer wallets that would discourage the folding or creasing of banknotes. “One thing to adjust is to have wallets or purses that prevent it from being totally folded. Dapat ang wallet singhaba ng pera para hindi i-fold,” said BSP Governor Felipe Medalla.

 

Put it in a frame


If you want to make sure your 1,000-peso banknote is safe and secure and smooth AF, you can treat it like a diploma and put it in a gilded frame, just like this. Fold-free, crease-free, and waterproof. Problem solved.

 

Laminate it

Think a frame is too bulky to bring around when you’re running errands? Do the next best thing and get your 1,000-peso bill laminated. Still fold-free, crease-free, and waterproof — though you would just have a hard time using it in transactions when you can’t even take it out of the laminate material.

 

Get a clearbook

If you want your 1,000-peso bill more accessible, maybe you can put it in a clearbook instead. It has a lot of clear sleeves, so you can put in a lot of your 1,000-peso bills. Sayonara wallet!

Just don’t worry about it
