Storytelling has definitely evolved in the time of digital media. We’re used to reading stories either through the written word, or through cinema, but social media has paved way to some unique and fun ways to tell stories. One such example is through screenshots and memes. Take Vince, Kath and James for example. It’s a viral story that was posted on Facebook, told through screenshots of fictitious online conversations, and was later on adapted to mainstream cinema and book series.
Just last week, another similar content went viral on Twitter, entitled By Mistake. This “Twitter-serye” basically tells the story of two college students who started a connection because of a wrong Grab text message. It trended on Twitter and was read by thousands of people, with everyone tweeting their feels about the story. It’s also a KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla) fanfiction, meaning the photos of characters Here are 8 reasons why we found it entertaining and why you should read it if you haven’t:

What drew us to reading the whole thread is definitely the memes. Some even read the story just for these. If you want to use the memes for personal use, here’s a separate thread which contained all the memes from the story for future references. You’re welcome.

Lily is your blunt and aggressive main character who loves to speak her mind online and in person. She can be quite annoying at first, but if you look deeper, her character resonates with a lot of our inner selves when dealing with crushes. The only difference is that she actually goes all the way and does all the cringey things we wouldn’t do in real life, which makes the story really fun to read.

The first few screenshots introduced us to the typical bad boy genius archetype, Ivor Mendoza, who made our eyes roll with his cold demeanor. He proved himself as the story went on, and we find ourselves eventually shipping him with Lily. I mean, (SPOILER) a guy impulsively drives all the way to Baguio just to see you? Our hopeless romantic, teenage self is pleased!

You’re lying if you didn’t think the group conversations aren’t similar to your friends’ group chat. You might find yourself matching your friends with the characters!

Reading this thread made us feel like we’re back to the puppy love stage. It’s a bonus if you’re a Thomasian, because the story gave a lot of hints and key places showing that the characters are from University of Santo Tomas.

The writer really made the villain really annoying. Poor Sophia Andres.

The themes in the story—school crushes, friendships, and college life in general take us on a deep, nostalgic trip. No wonder, we didn’t get tired of scrolling to read more.
This Twitter-serye was written by Gwy Saludes, a senior high graduate from University of Santo Tomas. She is more known as @4reuminct on Twitter and Wattpad, and her stories are mostly KathNiel fanfics. Check out her other works here.
