Following the devastation wrought by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai), many Filipinos are still struggling to get access to basic necessities, like food, water, communication lines, and more. But a lot of public figures have called for action to help the struggling survivors. Some like actresses Kris Aquino and Angel Locsin have teamed up and even gone on the ground to talk to survivors and provide help themselves.
Prior to the landfall of Typhoon Odette, Aquino was on vacation with her fiance Mel Sarmiento. But she shared a video of the typhoon raging outside her hotel window and said she did not forget about the victims of this calamity.
“Ayoko pong isipin ninyo na dedma ako sa pinagdadaanan ng mga kapwa nating Pilipino dahil sa napakalakas at bagsik ng bagyong Odette. Hindi na po ako magdedetalye pero non-stop ang communication ko sa mga kaibigan kung paano makakatulong,” the caption read.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, the actress shared how she and Locsin were on “nonstop messaging” to plan for relief operations. In the messages, Locsin was telling Aquino how they could plot their route if they hit the ground.
This is not the first time that the two actresses worked together to provide assistance in disaster relief operations. In 2013, Aquino and Locsin joined the relief operations of ABS-CBN after the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda.

In a comment under her now-deleted Instagram post, Aquino described how she, Locsin, and their partners split up the work needed to be done for the relief operations. “[P]arang kami ni Neil ang sa procurement & delivery of goods, kayo ni mel ang mangareers sa pakikipagusap sa LGU & NGO para sa deployment & actual distribution. Tapos tulong tulong tayo sa rebuilding na super hirap,” Aquino told Locsin in her comment.
But despite Aquino’s aversion towards logistics planning, she did join the relief operations on the ground. She was spotted with Vice President Leni Robredo in Negros Occidental, distributing goods and sharing some encouraging words to the typhoon survivors. Aquino was joined by her fiance Mel Sarmiento.

It’s not just VP Leni, Kris Aquino, and Angel Locsin doing good work on the ground. Many other public figures have provided assistance for the relief operations in the form of monetary and in-kind donations, donation drives, and actual on-the-ground work. Presidential candidate and senator Manny Pacquiao called for solidarity with fellow candidates to work together in the post-typhoon recovery efforts. Celebrities like Bea Alonzo and Anne Curtis, fandoms like BTS’ ARMY, and movements like the community pantries are also organizing their own donation drives. Countries like the US, South Korea, and China and companies like Apple have also pledged to contribute to the relief operations.
Many netizens are joining the calls for action of these public figures and praising them for the work they are doing to provide help. One netizen in particular noted how traveling to the devastated areas may be difficult for Aquino due her health and yet she made it there.
i stan Kris Aquino despite of what she’s going through her health still manages to help others 🥺
