We can’t deny how 2010s teleseryes left a mark on Pinoy pop culture. Most of these teleseryes feature women as protagonists, facing struggles and evil ruses of their archrival with such fearlessness and compassion. Read on and discover some of the most iconic female teleserye characters of the 2010s who’ll be forever stamped in our memory.
Bai Amaya of Amaya (2011)
Amaya gave us a teleserye heroine who was far from the norm: someone who needed no saving. Even though Amaya (Marian Rivera) was turned into an uripon (slave), she didn’t let that ordeal keep her from her destiny of becoming the warrior that’ll save the village, especially in an era where men were perceived as more capable leaders than women.
Victoria Valera of Magkaribal (2010)
“You want war? I’ll give you war! Sabihin mo lang kung saan at kailan. I’ll be there, in my red stilettos.”
This line of Victoria is one of the many reasons why Magkaribal remains one of ABS-CBN’s most iconic series to date. Played by Gretchen Barretto, Victoria is a fashion maven who’s on a mission to execute her revenge on Vera Cruz (Angel Aquino), her father’s paramour, and part of the reason why her family fell apart. Behind Victoria’s ferocious facade is a woman deeply hurt by her past and longing to be reunited with her sister again.
My Husband’s Lover was considered a groundbreaking drama during its run for bravely exploring themes like homosexuality, infidelity, and heteronormativity. Aside from the characters of Vincent and Eric, Lally (portrayed by Carla Abellana) was another well-written character in the show. Despite what she went through, Lally didn’t let hatred consume her and eventually learned to accept Vincent and Eric’s relationship.
Setting the intense sampalan scenes and catfights aside, Angel Locsin did a remarkable performance playing the role of Monica in the hit series The Legal Wife. Monica is a loving mother and wife, but her life starts to fall apart after discovering the affair of her husband Adrian (played by Jericho Rosales) and childhood friend Nicole (played by Maja Salvador). Throughout the series, you can feel Monica’s pain and how she eventually picked herself up again for the sake of her child.
Before we were charmed by Boyet’s cute quips in My Special Tatay, we had Tinay (played by Kris Bernal) of Little Nanay. She’s a bubbly teenager with a special condition who suddenly found herself on the journey of motherhood. Even at a young age, Tinay faced the struggles surrounding her with so much optimism and proved she could be a devoted mom to her daughter.
No, seriously. Wildflower wasn’t short of iconic moments when it was still airing. From walking down the aisle in a black wedding dress to getting buried alive and escaping it, Lily Cruz (portrayed by Maja Salvador) had viewers on the edge of their seats every time she executed her revenge on the cruel Ardiente family. Some even joked she could go toe to toe with Ang Probinsyano’s Cardo Dalisay! Lily Cruz is the epitome of being a badass, but make it extra.
Rhodora X is another GMA masterpiece that tackled what it’s like to have a Dissociative Identity Disorder or split personality. Jennylyn Mercado did an excellent job portraying the roles of Rhodora and Roxanne, which both have contrasting personalities. The monologues of Rhodora whenever Roxanne takes over are perfection!
We couldn’t name Romina (played by Beauty Gonzales) without acknowledging Daniela (played by Dimples Romana) because these two fierce women of Kadenang Ginto are both iconic in their own right. Every time they’re together on screen, expect things are about to go down. Take a look at how Romina casually paid her debt to Daniela (in a truck) up to the last centavo — well, quite literally. What a legend!
