A decade has passed since its release, but Shin Godzilla still proves that it deserves to be seen on the big screen. We’ve recently seen the film in theaters again through the limited-time Godzilla Film Fest, made possible by Go Asia Entertainment and SM Cinema, and here’s why we think you should run to the nearest SM Cinema now and watch it again.
When watching this critically acclaimed film, the big screen offers an entirely different level of impact compared to watching it at home.
Stepping away from what most people know, the film treats Godzilla less like a traditional movie monster and more like an unstoppable, creeping natural disaster. The sheer scale of its evolving forms should be matched when you watch.

The centerpiece sequence where Godzilla unleashes its atomic breath is widely considered one of the most awe-inspiring and terrifying scenes in sci-fi history. In a theater, the slow, deliberate escalation from a thin purple laser to a sweeping, city-scorching nuclear blowtorch is a must-see on a massive screen and theater-grade sound system to fully appreciate its weight.

Shin Godzilla is also quite timely. The film was structured as a response to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima nuclear disaster, critiquing endless red tapes, bureaucratic inertia, and the terrifying reality of nuclear energy. All of which remain relevant even now in 2026.
Unlike monster movies focused purely on brawls, Shin Godzilla functions brilliantly as a political satire and a tense procedural drama. It details the paralyzing red tape, frantic emergency cabinet meetings, and inter-agency scrambling of a government facing an unprecedented crisis.

I personally found myself loathing just how slowly bureaucracies move while (fictional) people were literally dying on the streets of Tokyo.
So if you ask me whether it’s worth seeing the film on the big screen again, the answer is obviously yes.

From epic monster showdowns and city-smashing destruction to Millennium-era adventures and the critically acclaimed modern reimagining of Shin Godzilla, each film offers a different look at the character who has remained one of cinema’s most enduring icons.
Five era-defining classics return to the big screen for an exclusive one-week engagement:
A classic monster showdown packed with destruction, adventure, and unforgettable spectacle, “Mothra vs. Godzilla” takes the audience to when Godzilla returns to wreak havoc, the giant moth Mothra is called upon to protect humanity and settle an epic score.
Godzilla faces his most unusual opponent yet when a monstrous creature born from the fusion of plant, human, and Godzilla DNA emerges in “Godzilla vs. Biollante” in this dark, imaginative, and wildly ambitious classic, this cult favorite delivers one of the franchise’s most unique battles.
In “Godzilla 2000: Millennium”, Godzilla returns to Japan just as a mysterious alien spacecraft awakens a terrifying new threat: the shape-shifting Orga. An electrifying experience awaits with the film’s spectacular destruction and a fresh take on the King of the Monsters, this is Godzilla unleashed for a new millennium.
An all-out monster smash unleashes in “Godzilla: Final Wars”, when monsters around the world suddenly run amok, Earth’s defenders unite as Godzilla faces an army of foes —and an extraterrestrial enemy pulling the strings.
Reimagining an icon for the modern age and unlike any Godzilla before, a mysterious creature emerges from Tokyo Bay and rapidly evolves into an unstoppable force in “Shin Godzilla”, throwing Japan into an unprecedented crisis.
The festival, presented by Go Asia Entertainment, brings together these five distinct chapters in Godzilla’s cinematic history.
For Godzilla Film Fest, tickets are priced at PHP 275, and moviegoers who purchase a ticket to the participating festival screening will receive a special Godzilla Film Festival collectible card.
