If you’ve ever wanted to see a full-length ballet, this Christmas is your chance. Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker will be staged for a limited time only this Christmas. Here’s everything you need to know about the ballet being staged in Makati:

The Nutcracker

ICYDK, The Nutcracker is a world-famous, two-act classical ballet that has become a definitive holiday tradition.

Composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, the ballet is celebrated for its sweeping orchestrations, iconic melodies, and whimsical festive themes.

Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s fantasy story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, The Nutcracker follows a young girl named Clara on Christmas Eve. After receiving a wooden toy nutcracker from her mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer, Clara falls asleep and enters a magical dream world. Her living room transforms into a battlefield where toy soldiers clash with a horde of mice. After Clara helps the Nutcracker defeat the menacing Mouse King, the toy transforms into a handsome Prince, who leads her into the Land of the Sweets, where Clara meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and enjoys dances representing treats from around the world.

The Nutcracker in Makati

Presented by Ayala Land in partnership with Circuit Makati, with additional support from GCash, this particular production of The Nutcracker brings together some of today’s most celebrated creatives and artists in the Philippines.

2024 Gawad CCP for Theater Awardee Gino Gonzales is in charge of set and costume design, while 2023 Aliw Lifetime Achievement Awardee Monino Duque is in charge of lighting design.

Ballet coach and choreographer Jeffrey Espejo will lead the restaging featuring the artists of Ballet Manila, the country’s most prolific classical ballet company and Steps Dance Studio, the country’s biggest dance school.

When and where will it be held?

The Nutcracker will run for a limited time only on 11 to 13 December 2026 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Circuit Makati.
