What are the NDRRMC alerts?
These alerts are emergency warning messages sent by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to all mobile devices in the country.
Mandated by Republic Act 10639 (also known as the Free Mobile Disaster Alerts Act), these alerts are issued free of charge in coordination with major telecommunications providers to warn the public about impending natural or man-made hazards.
Filipinos often encounter these alerts the most during the rainy season, notifying citizens of rainfall levels, possible flooding, and more.

What warnings are sent through the NDRRMC alerts?
The NDRRMC alerts are used to warn Filipinos of the following:
- Heavy rainfall and flooding, divided into color-coded warnings (yellow, orange, and red)
- Tropical cyclone warnings
- Geological disasters, such as earthquakes and volcanic activity
- Directives during emergency situations, such as evacuation instructions, shelter locations, and important hotlines
Why are emergency alerts so loud?
Emergency alerts are intentionally different from regular notifications. Your phone may receive dozens of messages, emails, and app notifications every day. A loud and distinctive alert helps ensure an emergency warning doesn’t get buried among them.
