Meet the Instax Pal 2, Fujifilm’s Answer to the Viral Tiny Digital Cameras

If the tiny digital camera is making a comeback, we’re definitely riding that wave. There’s something undeniably fun about giving your 50MP HD cameras a rest and carrying around a small camera you can clip on your bag. Especially when said camera looks like it came straight out of another era. Fujifilm’s latest answer to the trend is the Instax Pal 2, a palm-sized digital camera that captures the spirit of the original compact Instax Pal while delivering a more traditional camera experience.

Unlike the first Pal, which was essentially a tiny point-and-shoot without a screen or viewfinder, the Pal 2 has an optical viewfinder, a 1.3-inch LCD screen that lets you check your shots right after, a physical shutter button, a control dial, and a lever to switch shooting formats.
It also shoots at up to 10 megapixels, adds new creative effects, and can create little flipbook-style GIFs. It stores your photos digitally, which you can then transfer to your phone or print using a compatible Instax printer or hybrid instant camera.
You can choose your photo “look”
This is where things get particularly fun. The Pal 2 comes with 30 different effects, divided into five themes with six effects each. You can select an effect with the camera’s physical dial, giving you a more tactile way to decide how you want your photos to look. The dedicated Instax Pal app also lets you download effects and load them onto the camera.
So instead of taking a perfectly polished photo and editing it afterward, you can decide on the vibe before you press the shutter.
You can shoot in different Instax formats
Even without a built-in printer, the Pal 2 embraces the Instax ecosystem. You can shoot with Instax Mini, Instax Square, Instax Wide, or No Frame formats. That means you can decide how you want the final photo to look even before you print it.
When you’re ready to turn your digital photo into a physical print, you can send it to compatible Instax Link printers or supported hybrid cameras. Just remember: the printer and film are sold separately.
It can make tiny animations, too
The Pal 2 isn’t limited to still photos. Hold down the shutter button and the camera can capture up to 10 consecutive shots, which are then saved as an Instax Animation. The result is essentially a little flipbook-style animation that you can enjoy digitally or transfer through the app.
How much storage does it have?
The camera has internal storage for about 100 photos at 10MP. If that isn’t enough, you can add a microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC card supporting up to 2TB. Fujifilm estimates that a 1GB card can hold around 400 10MP images.
One thing to remember: when you’re not connected to the app, the camera’s maximum number of shots is 100, so transferring your photos periodically is a good idea.
How do you transfer photos?
The Pal 2 connects to your phone using Bluetooth 5.3 and works with the dedicated Instax Pal app. You can use the app to transfer images, change effects, shoot remotely, create and transfer Instax Animations, and update the camera’s firmware.
There’s also a USB Type-C port, which makes wired transfers significantly faster. Fujifilm lists transfer times of approximately 0.75 seconds per shot via USB, compared with around 15 seconds per shot over Bluetooth.
What about the battery?
The Pal 2 has a built-in lithium-ion battery and charges via USB Type-C. A full charge takes approximately two to three hours, although Fujifilm notes that charging time can vary depending on temperature.
The camera also has an automatic power-off function that can be set to two or five minutes, or turned off completely.
How much does the Instax Pal 2 cost?
In the United States, the Instax Pal 2 has a suggested retail price of USD 170, with availability expected in late September 2026. Fujifilm Japan has announced an October 9 release date.
For reference, US pricing converts to roughly around PHP 10,600 before local taxes, shipping, and retailer pricing, but that should not be treated as the official Philippine price.
Where can you buy the Instax Pal 2 in the Philippines?

Is the Instax Pal 2 worth getting?
If you’re looking for a camera to replace your smartphone or your proper digital camera, probably not. The Pal 2 isn’t trying to compete with either. What it does offer is a different way of taking pictures.
It’s small enough to bring along, has physical controls you actually want to play with, gives you a bunch of creative effects, and lets you decide whether your photos stay digital or eventually become physical Instax prints.
It also arrives at an interesting time. Tiny digital cameras have become a full-blown nostalgia trend, with products like the Kodak Charmera showing that people are willing to trade smartphone convenience for the novelty of carrying a dedicated little camera. If you miss when taking a photo felt a little more special, it might be worth carrying an extra camera.
