How to Help in the Wake of Typhoon Lando

Typhoon Lando has hit almost all areas of Luzon in the last few days, with Northern Luzon taking the hardest hit. The damage and trauma has been heartbreaking, but there are a lot of concrete ways to help our brothers and sisters who have been affected. You can donate, volunteer or even just spread awareness.

Here are some ways you can help those devastated by the typhoon.

8. JCI Philippines

JCI Philippines is collecting items such as blankets, canned goods, and water. You can also provide comfort for children who have been affected by sending them some toys.

7. Philippine Red Cross

The Philippine Red Cross is always there to help and facilitate donations. All in-kind donations can be sent to the Philippine Red Cross National Headquarters in Manila. You can also drop off your donations at any LBC branch nationwide. As for monetary donations, you can send them to Philippine Red Cross Bank Accounts (PNB, Metrobank, BPI, and Unionbank).

You may also donate via SMS by texting Red Amount to 4143 (Smart) or 2899 (Globe).

6. ReMeDi

Ready Medic Dispatch Philippines, in cooperation with Rock Ed Philippines, is looking for doctors and nurses to help in the devastated areas affected by Typhoon Lando. Reach out by looking for @gangbadoy or @rockedradio on Twitter. You may also drop your donations at 2/F Languages International, 926 Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road, across New World Hotel).

5. NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management council is welcoming volunteers to join response operations in the expected aftermath of Typhoon Lando. Interested volunteers may register and find more information here.

4. Manila Genesis Bus Company

If you want to donate some basic relief goods for the victims in Aurora, just visit their terminal in Cubao and drop off the donation, signed “C/O the office of Sonny Angara”.

3. Citizens Disaster Response Center

If you want to volunteer to repack relief goods, then you may do so at the CDRC HQ. You may also donate money or relief goods there. They are looking for the following items for relief operations: Rice, sardines, dried fish, cooking oil, mung beans, sleeping mats, blankets, plastic sheets, water containers and hygiene kits.

2. Volunteer for Project Agos

Help in gathering critical information, which could contribute to saving lives during the wake of the typhoon. The information gathered will be relayed to national government agencies and local responders. These groups can use the information gathered to prepare for and respond to Typhoon Lando.

1. Rock Ed Philippines

Rock Ed accepts donations and volunteers for Typhoon Lando evacuation centers. You may donate the following: Underwear for men, women and children, sanitary napkins, diapers, itch creams, soap and shampoo, towels, blankets and socks.

The items may be dropped off from Monday-Wednesday, October 19-21 in the following locations: Route 196 Katipunan, Quezon City and 2/F Languages Internationale, 926 Arnaiz Ave. (Pasay Road, across New World Hotel).
