You’ve probably seen countless memes, speculations, and reactions about Bamban Mayor Alice Guo’s identity. Her sudden rise has captured the nation’s attention, and after a whole lot of hemming and hawing in the Senate, she finally recently released a lengthy statement addressing all the issues linked to her. Here’s the TL;DR version.

She denied connections with POGOs

Alice firmly denied her alleged connections with Zun Yuan Technology, Inc., a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) inside the Baofu Compound. 

“Hindi po totoo na protektor o nasa likod ako ng ilegal na operasyon ng POGO sa aming bayan,” Guo said.

The city mayor clarified that there is an existing Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) office at the compound that monitors and regulates the operations of Zun Yuan Technology, Inc.

“Kung sakali pong may reklamong ipinarating sa aming kaalaman ay palagi pong nakahanda ang aming opisina at lokal na kapulisan upang umaksiyon. Kasi sinumpaang tungkulin po namin ‘yan sa aming mamamayan,” she added.

She opened up about her past

The city mayor addressed the controversy surrounding her nationality. She apologized for her responses during the previous Senate hearing, admitting that her mind had gone “blank” at the time.

“Hindi po sa kadahilanang wala akong maisagot, kundi sa hangad ko pong ‘wag magsinungaling, na siyang pinag-ugatan ng aking tugon na ‘hindi ko po alam your honors’,” Guo pointed out.

While she understands the public’s frustration with her vague answers, Guo said that delving deeper into her life brings up painful memories she wants to keep in the past. Nonetheless, Guo intends to set the record straight:

“Alang-alang sa aking mga kababayan na nagtitiwala at nagmamahal sa akin ay buong tapang pong sasabihin na ako po’y isang love child ng mahal kong ama sa aming kasambahay.”

Guo revealed that her biological mother left when she was still a child, and she was raised on a hog farm — that’s why much of her childhood is nothing but a distant memory.

She said she hopes to find her biological mother

With everything happening in her life right now, Guo said she hopes to reunite with her biological mother and rekindle their relationship. 

“Sana nga po ay lumitaw na ang tunay kong ina at kanyang akuin ang pagluwal sa akin upang matigil na po ang mga pagdududa na ako’y isang espiya.” 

She pointed to this as the reason why she remained single for the past 38 years. 

“Ang hindi pagiging perpekto ng aking pagkakakilanlan ang siya ring dahilan kung bakit sa edad na 38 ay pinili ko na hindi mag-asawa, at sa halip ay itinuon na lamang ang aking panahon at biyayang ipinagkaloob ng Diyos sa pagtulong sa kapwa,” the Bamban mayor elaborated.

She maintained that she’s Filipino

Finally, for those who are questioning Guo’s nationality, here’s what she has to say:

“Bilang pangwakas ay uulitin ko na ako’y isang tunay na Pilipino; sa puso, sa isip at sa gawa. At sa aking mga kababayan na nagpamalas ng mainit na suporta ngayong nasa gitna ako ng kontrobersiya, maraming salamat po.”

Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros maintains that Guo is connected with criminals

In a Facebook post today, Sen. Hontiveros said Guo is linked with Zhang Ruijin and Baoying Lin. 

“Mayor Alice Guo has ties with criminals. Kasama niya sa Baofu, dating kumpanya niya, ay sina Zhang Ruijin at Baoying Lin na arestado sa “largest money laundering case” sa Singapore,” the post reads.

The senator also linked to an article about them. It says they were a couple among the 10 people arrested in a money laundering probe worth a staggering S$2.8 billion (US$2 billion) or PHP116,256,000,000.

Moreover, Zhang and Lin have shareholdings and residential properties overseas, including in the Philippines. Hontiveros has yet to release more information regarding her Facebook post.
