This year was definitely the year of K-dramas (thank you, pandemya)! Perhaps to distract us from the anxiety of current events, it seemed like every time we finished one, we would automatically start another. And of course, it was inevitable that we’d grow attached to the characters on our screen. Whether they were the main leads, the second leads, or even just the supporting cast, they brightened up our days and gave us something to look forward to. As we end the year, let’s take a look back at the K-Drama characters we fell head over heels for this year:
We all fell in love with this CEO-turned-“housewife” in Crash Landing on You, the series that can be credited for reigniting the nation’s passion for K-dramas. Se-ri may have started out as a cold-hearted person, but seeing her character grow and fall in love made us root for her. And let’s not forget her fashion sense — her wardrobe is the stuff dreams are made of!
The strong and silent man every woman wishes for, it was inevitable that we’d get googly-eyed over Captain Ri. Though intimidating on the outside, this military officer turned out to be a softie, which only endeared him to us even more. And we just loved the way he expressed his concern for the woman he loves! Though it’s been months since the ending of Crash Landing on You, we still can’t move on from this character.
A perfect example of a character who’s been dealt a horrible hand yet still makes the best of his situation, Park Saeroyi is truly #goals. He never gave up on the hope that he will finally reach all of his big dreams. Though he went through a lot of ups and downs, in the end he was able to find justice and undo the sins of his past. Watching him work so hard kinda made us feel bad for all the hours we spent just being a couch potato, but he also gave us the inspiration to hustle.
The fact that Yi-seo stayed at Saeroyi’s side no matter what won us over — in spite of her sociopathic tendencies. We can only dream of having a ride-or-die partner like Yiseo who’s not only loyal, but also has the smarts to navigate almost any obstacle life throws her way.
The very lovable older brother of Sang-tae, Moon Gang-tae is an amazing illustrator. Although he is still traumatized by the past he never fails to smile. He shows his love for his younger brother by always looking out for him in his own little way.
The ever-reliable little brother who had to grow up in order to take care of his older brother, Moon Sang-tae was able to face all the difficulties in his life. Although he felt unloved by his mother, he continued to be an amazing brother and even matured at a young age. In the end, he was able to let go of all his worries and finally started to take care of himself.
As the resident funny doctor, Ik-joon may have initially seemed like a carefree guy but he’s actually a dedicated father and the most loyal friend. He cares for his friends so much that he’d put their happiness before his own. And we also loved watching how lovingly he treated his patients.
As the team leader of SH Venture Capital, Ji-pyeong (aka Good Boy) initially came across as rude and abrasive, but he’s just honest to a fault. And in fact, deep inside, he’s an actual softy! After taking care of himself all his life, he was able to achieve all his dreams. All we want for him is that he finds happiness not just in his career, but also in his personal life! #TeamGoodBoy
