First of all, who is  Buknoy ?

Buknoy Glamurrr is a 16-year-old Youtuber who posts different videos about her day-to-day life. She’s known for her fashion, her sense of humor, and her sassy attitude. Before the controversy, Buknoy’s Youtube channel had almost 500 thousand subscribers.  However, because of the negative news that surrounded Buknoy, her subscriber count has plummeted to 200 thousand.

Where it all started

The hate towards Buknoy started when she uploaded a video of herself lip-syncing the N-word. Then, it got worse when she uploaded a video that seemed to be demeaning tricycle drivers. After being called out, Buknoy was quick to post an apology video, but by then the damage had already been done, and people weren’t buying the apology.

After a few weeks, Buknoy found herself under hot water yet again after a video of the influencer enraged the internet. In this video, Buknoy was seen out and about at night with no face mask on. Note that Buknoy is a minor, so she shouldn’t have been out in the first place as she was clearly violating quarantine rules.

Awra enters the scene

Former child star and influencer Awra Briguela was one of the most vocal in calling Buknoy out on Twitter after the curfew violation video started circulating on the internet. And, well, it got a little out of hand.

After a few heated exchanges, the Buknoy and Awra went on to post different screenshots of their past conversations. Awra even posted a screenshot of Buknoy’s old manager asking the influencer to delete past tweets.

Netizens react

This catfight triggered a lot of netizens, with some going as far as muting both of them to minimize the negativity. But most netizens sided with Awra. Clearly, Buknoy’s string of controversies have rubbed netizens the wrong way, and they’ve had enough.

More tea is served

Just this week, another video of Buknoy made rounds online. In the video, Buknoy was seen doing the “WAP Challenge”, dancing around a fast-food restaurant’s floor. What angered netizens is the influencer’s lack of care regarding safety protocols especially during this pandemic.

Buknoy gets into more trouble

To make matters worse, a Twitter user made a thread exposing Buknoy’s behavior behind the scenes. The thread included different screenshots of the influencer trying to flirt with him. A part of their conversation even included Buknoy threatening to cut himself/herself.

But is this all intentional?

Last week, Buknoy released a video reacting to Blackpink’s music video for “Ice Cream”. In the first part of the video, the influencer talked about being a fan of Selena Gomez since “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood” — both Taylor Swift songs. This led many to believe that the influencer may be intentionally acting problematic for clout.

Buknoy takes a break

After all the issues that surrounded the influencer, Buknoy decided to take a break from social media. It’s a good decision. We hope that Buknoy takes this time away to reflect and perhaps gain some self-awareness, as she does have a huge platform that has the potential to be used for good. And after all, Buknoy is only 16 years old — there’s plenty of opportunity for growth.
