All eyes are on Richard Gutierrez this week, as news spread like wildfire that he is indeed, transferring to ABS-CBN. It was definitely a big move for him, since he has cemented his status in the industry during his stay at GMA 7.
But, of course, to be a more effective artist, you must be ready to take on new challenges. And that was the goal of artists who decided to move to rival networks. It’s actually pretty normal in the industry, only that it’s risky, considering the fact that some have failed to reach their goal after their move.
There are, of course the successful ones—the ones whose careers blossomed after their move:
Paulo Avelino was a StarStruck alumnus who has starred in different variety shows and teleseryes in GMA 7. But it was when he transferred to ABS-CBN that he got more dynamic roles which showed everyone his versatility as an actor. Whether he plays the lead or the antagonist, you know he’d slay it—not to mention the fact that he is totally a charmer.
If you’re a fan of Pinoy Big Brother, then you’d definitely remember that Sam Pinto was a former housemate. She immediately transferred to GMA 7 after a year, and since then, lots of projects kept coming her way. She was even hailed by a men’s magazine as one of the sexiest women in the country a few years ago.
At first, you wouldn’t believe that this talented young actress came from ABS-CBN, since she earned her spotlight when she was with GMA 7. Glaiza de Castro’s career continue to flourish up to now, and there’s no stopping her.
Every Encantadia fan would remember Jake as Karylle’s son, Kahlil, in the fantasy series. He used to play younger roles, as he also starred in the youth-oriented drama, Click. His transfer to ABS-CBN gave him the chance to take on more mature, and even daring, roles.
Like Sam Pinto, Tom Rodriguez was a former PBB housemate who also ventured into acting within ABS-CBN. He starred in Maalala mo Kaya, Angelito: Batang Ama and Guns n Roses. He also starred in Be Careful With My Heart, his last stint before his transfer to GMA 7.
Toni Gonzaga has come a long way—she’s done a lot of acting, hosting, singing and basically a little bit of everything. To date, she’s one of ABS-CBN’s most treasured stars, and her name always pops up in the network’s biggest shows and events. That’s why most people would be forgiven if they can’t recall that she was part of the Eat Bulaga cast years ago.
Few would remember that Dennis Trillo started his humble beginnings at ABS-CBN, because he’s one of GMA 7’s longest mainstays. But yes, he was once a Kapamilya, and he even starred in the hits Pangako Sa’yo and Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan before we saw him in Mulawin.
Anne Curtis entered showbiz at a young age, and GMA 7 took her in as part of their roster of young stars. She’s starred in several shows like T.G.I.S. and Anna Karenina. After six years, she decided to transfer to the rival network to hone her acting skills, even describing the move as “majorly life-changing.” And we can say that it really was. I mean, look at her now.
