The Internet’s newest obsession is the charming Maria Clara at Ibarra actor, David Licauco who plays Fidel de los Reyes. In the GMA series, he is Crisostomo Ibarra’s (Dennis Trillo) friend and Klay’s (Barbie Forteza) love interest. David Licauco was born on June 15, 1994; he’s currently 28 years old. For all the astrology girlies out there, he’s a Gemini — go crazy! As if he hasn’t already got the charming looks, Licauco also has the height to complete the package, standing at 5’11 tall.

He’s Filipino-Chinese

But his roots have never been an issue when it comes to his dating life. In 2019, this Filipino-Chinese heartthrob did say he preferred to have a Chinese girlfriend so they share the same upbringing and beliefs. However, in a more recent 2021 interview, Licauco said he’s lucky he doesn’t hail from a traditional Chinese family so he can actually date whoever he wants.

He loves playing basketball

Back in college, Licauco was part of the College of Saint Benilde (CSB) Blazers. He even got to play in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). However, his life changed its trajectory when he got in a car accident in 2013, which resulted in the death of his best friend. Licauco said that this tragedy led him to “reassess his life goals“, helping him realize that basketball wasn’t for him. He then turned to modeling and acting.

He was a Kapamilya before he became a Kapuso

In 2014, Licauco starred in Vice Ganda’s The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin. He was also part of ABS-CBN shows like Flordeliza and Ipaglaban Mo!  Shortly after, he booked small roles in GMA Network’s Magpakailanman and Karelasyon. But it was his role as Malik in GMA’s television fantaserye Mulawin vs Ravena that propelled him into fame. In 2022, he took on the role of Fidel in Maria Clara at Ibarra, further launching him into stardom.

He’s an entrepreneur

Licauco has put his Business Management bachelor’s degree from CSB to good use, setting up various food businesses. These include Sobra Comfort Food, As Nature Intended, Kuya Korea, and Sobra Cafe. After his stint in Maria Clara at Ibarra, Licauco shares he wants to expand his business and open possible franchises.

Licauco is also a great hands-on food entrepreneur who is always making sure he takes care of his brands well.

“I’m super hands-on,” said Licauco in an interview. “Actually, all my businesses… other people are part of a business, like for marketing’s sake (or side of it). But with my businesses, I’m the one who has started them up, from operations to the system and everything.”

If you loved Licauco and Forteza’s on-screen chemistry in Maria Clara at Ibarra, you’ll be glad to know this isn’t their first time as an on-screen couple. Their characters were also lovers in Heartful Cafe (2021) and Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune (2022). And since they’re amazing actors who obviously work well together, we’re crossing our fingers that they star in a rom-com movie soon!

He’s had his heart broken by another actress

In 2018, Licauco opened up about an ABS-CBN actress who broke his heart and made him cry. He said in an interview that they had been in a relationship for years but had to call it quits when she became part of a love team. When asked to name this actress, here’s Licauco’s only response during the interview: “Super secret!”
