Former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno captured the attention of Pinoy internet again for her response to a senseless comment in one of her posts. Here’s what went down:
Hello, Twitter friends! CJ Sereno is doing God’s work on Facebook and I think it will be helpful if we follow her page and share and/or react to her posts.💗 Sobrang in-depth niya rin mag-explain at ang saya matuto sa kanya. 🥰https://t.co/6CLicLki5g pic.twitter.com/PtY0wVEmG5

A while back, Sereno started publishing a series of posts about different historical and political subjects, especially the truth about government funds and assets during Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorship period. And perhaps the most important is that the information she provides is backed with official sources on the subject matter. She does the research, and all netizens need to do is open the link sources and read them.
This is especially due to the upcoming campaign period. The posts have garnered hundreds and thousands of reactions, comments, and shares on Facebook alone. She also links and crossposts these across her other social media pages. This means that while her posts have the power to educate, they also draw a lot of trolls.
Earlier this month, Sereno responded to a troll who commented a threat against her under a post talking about the Marcoses’ ill-gotten wealth. She quickly shot him down with a warning, which led to the netizen apologizing to her through a direct message.
Sereno continued her work on sharing resources, and her posts continue to draw attention. That includes this netizen going by the name of Tirso Butch Valino. He essentially said that any person taking a government post eventually steals from the people’s taxes. “Naku magtigil na nga pare-pareho lang yan,” the comment said.
When Sereno spotted the comment, she immediately flipped the argument over. After a quick look into Valino’s Facebook profile, she saw that he is the “Assistant Dept Head of Sangguniang Panglungsod” in Cabanatuan City. She asked him straight-up, “Kayong lahat ng nasa LGU ng Cabanatuan City . . . ay magnanakaw?”
Like she did with the previous viral comment, Sereno shared a separate post featuring screenshots of the comments and the netizen’s profile page. This time, however, she directly called the attention of the Cabanatuan City LGU and the Philippine Civil Service Commission.
Sinabi na kasing wag ninyong susubukan si CJ Meilou Sereno eh.😅🔥 pic.twitter.com/6mpmvVK3Yb

And much like the previous viral comment, netizen Valino also issued an apology — through a handwritten letter. “Nai-comment ko lang po iyon dahil sa kainitan ng diskusyon,” the letter read.
May this be a lesson to everyone not to let their emotions get the best of you. Engaging in healthy discourse is still the best way to educate one another properly. Get off social media if you think you’re getting too angry. And if you really want to help in bettering the country, then educate yourself and register to vote. You have one last week left.
