Huawei FreeClip: Are Open-Ear Earbuds the Next Big Thing?

Huawei is all about challenging the tech landscape, and with the release of Huawei FreeClip, it’s evident how they’re changing the game. Not only do these new earbuds deliver great sound quality, but they also bump up anyone’s fashion meter by being a head-turning ear accessory. So should you get yourself a pair? I tested the Huawei FreeClip for a week, and here’s what I discovered you’ll love about it.
At first glance, the Huawei FreeClip might look like a lot is going on with it, but its form proves effective in its function. Unlike regular earphones with a head and a stem, this one has three parts: The Comfort Bean, the C-bridge, and the Acoustic Ball.
The Comfort Bean helps secure the earbuds to your ear with gentle pressure. It’s also where the windproof mic is located. The C-bridge is made of shape-memory alloy and has been tested on more than a hundred people to get the optimal elastic arc shape. Finally, the Acoustic Ball delivers high-quality audio plus crystal-clear calls thanks to the talk mic. For the gestures, tap on either of the three parts to perform actions like pause/play and next.
Since it’s an open-ear pair, one of my initial worries was the possible sound leakage. Wouldn’t want folks in my morning commute to judge my playlist, right? But turns out I didn’t have to stress at all. The FreeClip has a reserve soundwave system that helps transmit the sound precisely into my ear canal for privacy.
One of the best things about Huawei gadgets is that they also make great fashion accessories. There’s the sleek Watch GT4, a wearable device that instantly elevates any look, and now here’s the FreeClip, which is an added ear accessory guaranteed to turn heads. It has a snug and comfortable fit, so you can move any way you want, and it’ll stay clipped on your ear. It’s sweat- and water-resistant, so even if you run or hit the gym, the FreeClip can be your trusty companion.
Whenever my dad wanted to watch a movie on his phone, he would spend a few seconds figuring out which earbud had to go in which ear. Sometimes, we even have to point out that he’s wearing them wrong. The FreeClip satisfyingly eliminates the hassle of checking the earbuds whenever you wear them since they’re interchangeable. How cool is it that it automatically adapts to the left-right audio channels?
ICYDK in-ear earbuds block the ear canal, potentially causing bacteria growth and hearing damage. The bass might sound good when you “feel” it reverberating, but it could put you at a disadvantage in the long run. Being an open-ear pair, the Huawei FreeClip gives your ear room to breathe while you still get to enjoy music. Admittedly, there’s limited noise cancellation, but this could still be an advantage for those who would rather be aware of their surroundings.
The Huawei FreeClip promises up to 36 hours of listening with a fully charged charging case and up to 8 hours if you use the buds alone. Even if you drain the battery, popping it into the case for 10 minutes can give you up to 3 hours of listening.
I tested that claim and watched the entirety of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Air Bender last week, plus had a mini Taylor Swift streaming party on my own, as one does. Not surprisingly, I’ve only had to charge the case once. So, if you’re like me who has never been patient with charging multiple gadgets, these earbuds can stay away from the ports for a long time.

At a first-sale promo price of Php 9,999 with freebies of up to P4,598 (inclusive of a one-year loss warranty and the HUAWEI Band 7 Watch), the Huawei FreeClip is worth your hard-earned money if you prioritize comfort, fashion, and functionality. Remember that the noise cancellation isn’t as good since it’s an open-ear earbud, but it packs a punch in style and long-lasting battery life. Overall, it’s a great bang-for-your-buck gadget to add to your rotation.
