ICYMI, Filipina voice talent and content creator Inka Magnaye will voice the Scarab in the Philippine release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming action-adventure Blue Beetle. And we just learned that she’s the first and only choice they had for the role!
In a press conference held ahead of the film’s theatrical release, Inka shared how she received the offer from Warner Bros.
She shared that she didn’t see the email herself. The wonderful team behind her simply sent her a screenshot of the email without saying anything.
“I looked at it. And I was a little confused because it said ‘Hi. Warner Brothers. Superhero movie,'” Inka said. “I’m like, what? No. Is this real? Is this real? And then the whole time, I think I was on a high for the next few days after that.”
When asked if she had to audition, Inka, still in disbelief, shared: “They wanted me from the beginning.”
Warner Bros. Entertainment’s Digital Marketing Manager Bonch Santos confirmed this: “[Inka] was the choice from the beginning. Because when we heard the opportunity to do the voiceover for the Scarab, there was just one person in mind.”
“It made my year,” Inka said with a smile.
Here’s a brief synopsis of the movie, from the official production notes:
Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.
Curious to know more about Inka’s character? Here’s what we know about Scarab:
The Scarab, aka Khaji-Da, is a beautiful relic of ancient alien biotechnology, a palm-sized, obsidian-like Scarab and one of the most powerful artifacts in the universe. Pulsing with iridescent streaks of bluish and purple, once it has chosen a host, the Scarab bestows them with a suit that is both organic and technological, and a symbiotic connection that transforms the bearer into the almighty Super Hero Blue Beetle.
But to really learn more about Scarab/Khaji-Da, catch Blue Beetle when it opens in Philippine cinemas starting Wednesday, August 16. Advanced ticket selling starts today, August 9.
