A fur parent’s bond with their fur babies knows no limits. That’s why it’s heart-wrenching for many to hear about the tragic loss of a beloved golden retriever named Killua by a neighbor. Here’s what happened:

A fur parent’s grief

Vina Rachelle shared a Facebook post in which she emotionally detailed the discovery of her golden retriever named Killua found lifeless in a sack. In a short CCTV footage she posted, Killua was seen chased by a man identified as ‘Anthony Solares.’

“For the information of everyone, hindi ‘yan nakalabas kasi bukas ang gate. The gate was locked. Tumaas siya tapos nahulog ata, we don’t exactly know what happened,” Vina elaborated.

She said Killua looked anxious and stressed out in the CCTV clip because the dog’s not used to being outside.

“And if nangagat man, it is not enough reason to kill my pet…no sorry could ever replace my baby,” she emphasized. 

Vina also shared a short clip of Solares being confronted on what happened. The latter alleged that Killua tried to attack his child and what he did was only an act of self-defense. In the video, Solares is shown taking the dog’s corpse out of the sack, showing no remorse.

Pinoys call justice for Killua

With thousands of comments and millions of views across social media, Killua’s story struck a chord with Pinoys. Many are calling out to authorities to arrest Solares and press charges against him.

“Anthony Solares, sana mabulok ka sa kulungan habang-buhay! Grabe talaga!” One X (formerly Twitter) user said.

Others pointed out that golden retrievers are gentle, affectionate, and friendly, especially towards kids.

“They love nothing more than showering us with love and attention. #JusticeForKillua.” Another user wrote. 

Above all, people are hoping that the government will be more strict and proactive in implementing our laws concerning animal abuse and violence.

“We need to strengthen the laws for people who hurt animals. Their lives matter! And we love them as much as we love our own family members!”

What does our law say about animal cruelty?

Republic Act No. 8485 or The Animal Welfare Act (later amended by Republic Act 10631) protects animals from any form of abuse or maltreatment. Violators of this law may face imprisonment for a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of two (2) years. They’ll also be required to pay a fine of up PHP100,000.

In a new Facebook post, Vina vows to get the justice Killua deserves and thanks everyone who showed their support.

“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumusuporta kay Killua para sa laban na ito at sa lahat po ng nag aabot ng tulong. Killua is probably happy na madaming nagmamahal sakanya aside from his family.”
