LOOK: Nadine Lustre’s Instagram Transforms From Aesthetic Snaps to Calling For Help For Typhoon Odette Victims

Dec 29, 2021   •   Kyzia Maramara

Over the past week, our timelines have been awash with various online donation drives and cries to help Typhoon Odette victims. But it doesn’t seem to be enough. Millions of our fellow Filipinos were affected by the devastating storm and it will take more than just one round of donations to help them get back on their feet. This is why singer/actress Nadine Lustre is using her huge platform to raise awareness for Typhoon Odette victims. Did you know she even spent Christmas in Siargao?

Nadine’s Instagram account, transformed

Nadine is using her platform to spread awareness and call for help for Typhoon Odette victims. Her Instagram account, usually filled with aesthetic shots, has now transformed into squares of infographics. Each post details what is currently going on in a typhoon-affected location and where to donate to help. The posts were made in partnership with organizations like Kids for the Future, Kids for Kids, and Aksyon ng Kabataan Organization. Nadine sure knows how to best reach out to her 10.8 million followers!

Aside from posting on her account, Nadine has also been sharing other donation drives and updates on her Instagram stories. She acts as the boost everyone needs to be heard on a bigger platform. She also shares posts for animal relief and aid, always remembering that humans aren’t the only ones affected here. Even our furry friends need all the help they can get. The singer/actress continues to remind everyone that while some are huddled safely in their homes, celebrating a peaceful end of the year, there are others who are struggling and need help.

She even spent Christmas in Siargao

Lest anyone think our President Nadine is just conveniently posting on social media in the comfort of her home, here’s proof that she actually cares. She traveled to Siargao to distribute relief goods and solar panels to heavily affected areas. Together with her boyfriend, Christophe Bariou, who owns a hotel in Siargao, she spent Christmas day going around the island looking to extend a helping hand.

Proud of Siargao and its community

Nadine has recently moved to Siargao for good. It’s why the island is so close to her heart. When asked what she wants to tell the people of Siargao stuck by the typhoon, Nadine said that she’s proud of everyone for not being selfish. People in Siargao are willing to help each other even if they’ve all been caught in the same violent storm.

“Guys, mahirap I know it’s very hard but I’m proud of everyone I’m proud of you all for helping each other,” she said.

Typhoon Odette aftermath in the Philippines

It has almost been two weeks since Typhoon Odette ravaged most of Visayas and Mindanao. Until now, there are communities and cities without electricity, signal, and potable water. The death toll has climbed to 389, 1,146 are injured and 64 missing. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also estimated that there are over 1 million families displaced. Houses are flattened and infrastructures are damaged by the harsh winds. A lot of streets are still impassable due to debris. The effect of the super typhoon was shocking but everyone is working round the clock to make sure our fellow Filipinos have everything they need.
