8 Millennial Things That Aren’t Cool Anymore (According to Gen Z)

Something in the universe has shifted since Gen Z came of age. Show them the trends millennials used to enjoy, and they might recoil in horror. Just in case you’re having a hard time keeping up with what’s in or out, we made a list to see how many Gen Zs will be triggered by these past trends.
Fashion is subjective, but most Zoomers say there’s a special place for anyone wearing skinny jeans: a museum exhibit. These days, it’s all about comfort, and skinny jeans aren’t the most forgiving on certain body types. Are we going to see less of them? It depends on the millennial you ask.
It’s easy to spot Gen Zs on Instagram. Their feed is clean, and they don’t even put a profile picture, all for a minimalist aesthetic. Instagram Stories are where we are now — from sharing coffee shops and candid friend moments to unfiltered rants about the latest social issues.
Before crazy camera upgrades on mobile phones, photo editing apps like *cough* Camera 360 and their filters were the real deal for stunning selfies. For Gen Zs, the less effort put into your photos (or, at least, that’s how they make it seem), the better.
Trends come and go, but as far as side-part hair is concerned, it should remain from the past where it belongs. Most Gen Zs think side-part hair is a hallmark of Millennial fashion, aka outdated and uncool. For now, the middle part reigns supreme.
Move over, ankle socks! Crew and sporty socks are back to haunt every millennial who said they look tacky. Whether you like it or not, they’ve emerged from the shadows of the ’90s to reclaim their spot in the fashion sphere alongside chunky sneakers, loafers, and sandals.
If your home is a sanctuary of grey interiors, you might want to keep it hidden from Gen Zs unless you’re ready for some harsh opinions. The love for bright and eclectic interiors with a retro twist among Gen Zs starkly contrasts with the subdued tones millennials lean toward.
We’ve come a long way since the internet was born, and Gen Zs have decided it’s time to ditch using GIFs. You now must have a special meme folder that you can use for daily chats anytime.
Yes, this writer is fully aware that 8List has an “adulting” section, but we’re not talking about that. We’re talking about millennials who still say “adulting” even though they’re over the age of 30. Sure, the real world isn’t kind, but do millennials have to use “adulting” whenever life gets tough? Maybe it’s time we leave that word for the actual young ones and roll with the punches like everyone else our age.
