Party For One: Date Ideas for Singles Flying Solo This Valentine’s

Feb 12, 2019   •   Kyzia Maramara

Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love whether it’s between a couple or love for your family, pets, and, yes, love for yourself. Single? You don’t have to mope and be stuck working for Valentine’s Day, you can always go out and invite your friends or family, or better yet, go on an introspective date with yourself. You just might like the independence too much!

Catch a movie

Via Facebook: Cinema ’76

For the introvert, visit a cinema! You can pick a movie that speaks to you from the many that are going to be released in cinemas this February. Your options are:

  • Alita: Battle Angel (Christoph Waltz, Rosa Salazar, Eiza Gonzales)
  • Green Book (Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali)
  • Happy Death Day 2U (Jessica Roth, Israel Broussard)
  • Lego Movie 2 (Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett)
  • Alone Together (Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano)

Why don’t you splurge a little and buy that Director’s Club ticket? Sit back, relax, and eat that bag of popcorn!

Netflix and chill

For the lazy singles out there, there’s nothing quite like having a date with yourself; hanging out in bed and watching a movie on Netflix. Choosing which movie to watch might have consumed your first hour but who says any date is easy? If you were at a restaurant, you’d spend the same time choosing a meal!

Not sure what to watch? Here’s a list of new Netflix releases for February.

Spend time outdoors

For the nature lovers who can’t stay put in the city for long, the great outdoors is always a good idea. There are minor mountains you can climb for a day hike in Rizal or other places in the area you can explore. Also, consider joining mountain climbing tours, it’s a great chance to meet new people.

If you haven’t got the time to go outside the metro, you can still visit parks in the area. La Mesa Eco Dam for one has great views, activities, and surroundings, and even Makati has parks where you can people watch in peace.

Get lost in space at the National Museum Planetarium

Via Facebook: National Museum of the Philippines

Dr. Jose P. Rizal Park, Padre Burgos Ave, Ermita, Manila
Open Tuesdays to Sundays, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

For the singles who love museums, the National Museum Planetarium is open once again. Aside from a planetarium shows (Php 50) that will make you feel as if you’re front row on a space ship, the Planetarium gallery lets you learn a few more things about space. Once you’re done, you can visit the nearby National Museum of Natural History or the National Museum, entrance is free!

Spend a day at Fully Booked in BGC

Via Facebook: Fully Booked

B6 Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City Taguig

For the bookworm, browse and read books in peace and for free at the four floors of the Fully Booked branch in BGC. They have couches and chairs placed everywhere for your reading pleasure. The best part is that their books have no plastic covers so you can absolutely spend as much time you want reading a few chapters.

This Fully Booked branch has an in-house Starbucks and White Hat. Coffee, yogurt, and books? What an ideal date!

For other events happening at BGC, visit the official Facebook pages facebook.com/bonifacioglobalcityph/ and facebook.com/BoniHighStreet.

Shop artsy at The Hub: Make Lab, Escolta

Via Facebook: Hub: Make Lab

413 Escolta Street, First United Building, Manila

For the artsy, you can spend an afternoon at the creative community of Escolta which caters to artists from all walks of life. The Hub: Make Lab Escolta is home to various artists selling their craft whether its accessories, clothes, trinkets or art pieces. Drop by and see for yourself all the unique items you’ll be able to go home with. Aside from enjoying your purchase, you also help the artists that made them.

Go out for a drink

For those whose idea of a good time involves alcohol, why don’t you try exploring bars by your lonesome? Sure, going to a bar alone might feel awkward at first but once you strike a conversation with a stranger or even the bartender, it might not be that bad. Explore bars where you can drink alone in a relaxed environment, who knows, you might get a meet-cute with someone.

Try out Draft Restaurant & Brewery, The Belle & Dragon, Chill Top, The Pigpen, INT.Bar, or Liberty Kitchen + Bar.

If you’re going to do this don’t forget to inform your friends of your whereabouts so they can easily rescue you when you’ve had too much to drink.

Take yourself to a fancy restaurant

Via Facebook: Mendokoro Ramenba

There’s nothing wrong with eating alone and enjoying your own company. If people stare at you while you munch in peace, remember that it’s not their business. You might find it fun having the food all to yourself with no one reaching over to take from it without permission. Try a table at Nono’s, Mendokoro Ramenba, or The Penthouse 8747.
