Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love whether it’s between a couple or love for your family, pets, and, yes, love for yourself. Single? You don’t have to mope and be stuck working for Valentine’s Day, you can always go out and invite your friends or family, or better yet, go on an introspective date with yourself. You just might like the independence too much!
For the introvert, visit a cinema! You can pick a movie that speaks to you from the many that are going to be released in cinemas this February. Your options are:
Why don’t you splurge a little and buy that Director’s Club ticket? Sit back, relax, and eat that bag of popcorn!
For the lazy singles out there, there’s nothing quite like having a date with yourself; hanging out in bed and watching a movie on Netflix. Choosing which movie to watch might have consumed your first hour but who says any date is easy? If you were at a restaurant, you’d spend the same time choosing a meal!
Not sure what to watch? Here’s a list of new Netflix releases for February.
For the nature lovers who can’t stay put in the city for long, the great outdoors is always a good idea. There are minor mountains you can climb for a day hike in Rizal or other places in the area you can explore. Also, consider joining mountain climbing tours, it’s a great chance to meet new people.
If you haven’t got the time to go outside the metro, you can still visit parks in the area. La Mesa Eco Dam for one has great views, activities, and surroundings, and even Makati has parks where you can people watch in peace.

For those whose idea of a good time involves alcohol, why don’t you try exploring bars by your lonesome? Sure, going to a bar alone might feel awkward at first but once you strike a conversation with a stranger or even the bartender, it might not be that bad. Explore bars where you can drink alone in a relaxed environment, who knows, you might get a meet-cute with someone.
Try out Draft Restaurant & Brewery, The Belle & Dragon, Chill Top, The Pigpen, INT.Bar, or Liberty Kitchen + Bar.
If you’re going to do this don’t forget to inform your friends of your whereabouts so they can easily rescue you when you’ve had too much to drink.
There’s nothing wrong with eating alone and enjoying your own company. If people stare at you while you munch in peace, remember that it’s not their business. You might find it fun having the food all to yourself with no one reaching over to take from it without permission. Try a table at Nono’s, Mendokoro Ramenba, or The Penthouse 8747.
