A male public school teacher is under fire online for taking a video of his Grade 7 female student and posting it on Tiktok. The video, which currently has amassed 1.6 million views, has thousands of Pinoys expressing their dismay in the comments section. What exactly happened?
In the viral video, Reymar Caburnay — or Titser Reymar on Tiktok — posted a video of his Grade 7 student writing in her notebook and smiling at the camera.
“She is left-handed, and she is still pretty. #MorenaGirl,” reads the text on the video.
“Ganito po kaganda si Morena girl kapag nagsusulat sa kwaderno,” the teacher also wrote on the caption.
Pinoy Tiktok users were quick to react and express their discomfort over a teacher taking videos of their student, who is obviously a minor.
“When she’s left-handed and morena ta’s bigla kang chinat ni DepEd na wala ka nang trabaho,” reads the top comment on the post.
“I don’t feel comfortable,” commented another.
“Seriously?? Noong [high school] nga ako, na rumor lang na may something sa Math teacher & classmate ko, na terminate agad yung teacher. Tapos ngayon, may mga teachers na nag-p-post ng gantong content ng student nya?? [What the heck],” said another netizen in disbelief.
Meanwhile, others simply tagged the Tiktok account of the Department of Education (DepEd), asking them to look into the situation. After all, this isn’t their first rodeo. Last 2021, DepEd also had to investigate another teacher who had an inappropriate caption on his viral Tiktok video.

Pinoys also took offense at the teacher somehow insinuating that left-handed people aren’t beautiful with the “She is left-handed, and she is still pretty” video text.
“Aside from it being creepy (it is very, very creepy), ang weird din ng caption like pangit ba mga left-handed people???” asked one person on Twitter.
“Ano koneksyon nung pagiging left-handed? Bakit parang right-handed [people] lang may karapatan maging maganda?” asked another.
You don’t even have to scroll far to find other videos of the student Titser Reymar calls Morena Girl. Two pinned viral videos on his profile feature the same student.
In the videos, the teacher starts with a top-to-bottom pan of the student who then turns around and smiles at the camera all while Billy Crawford’s song “Filipina Girl” is playing. The videos were uploaded on April 27 and 29 and has amassed 6.1 million and 1.8 million views respectively.
In response to all the negative reactions, Titser Reymar said that he didn’t have any ill intent towards the student because he is gay.
“Wala po akong malisya sa bata dahil bakla po ako,” he wrote.
He also said that he asked permission from the parents before posting the videos, and also clarified that the student’s lip bite is just a mannerism.
Regardless of his intentions behind the posts, the question remains: should he have posted it? What kind of attention is he attracting by broadcasting videos of a minor?
This whole incident is a reminder for all teachers and staff to be mindful of their actions toward their students. During the 2021 fiasco, former Education Secretary Leonor Briones called for educators to “subject our words and actions, including our social media activities, to the highest degree of ethical and professional standards.”
She also reminded teachers that they are responsible for fostering a “safe and nurturing learning environment for children.”
As of writing, DepEd is yet to respond to this Morena Girl viral video issue.
